use a thumper cam idle sound and compare that idle to a new corvette Z-06 idle.
put the stats side by side and explain why the big cam has a smooth idle and the small cam sounds like a race car,,,,
not wanting to get this thread off topic,just stating that specs are more than random numbers and sound does not tell the story.

quite often like I have stated before,I use a tighter LDA and lower ICL on a smaller engine. The BB needs a wider LDA especially when building a 532 or that type of engine.(big bore moderate stroke,high revving).The blower engines are like bigger engines.
Scandi,you didnt mention what happens to the idle quality with a low ICL and narrow LDA

|Blown496||Wasn't looking for an argument...just curious. I actually thought about going tighter on lca, up the compression and under drive the blower but like power brakes and idle quality too much. Getting old I suppose makes me less tolerable of herky jerky stuff. I never wanted to make a pass or get on a dyno to see how much power it has. I just want a tire boiling monster on the street that is all fun and no fuss.|

|Blown496||I avm hoping the wide spread in duration will not be a problem. With 56 degrees overlap at advertized duration it should be really mild and strong down low. Just want to feel good about it before I change it.|

the power would likely drop after 5,000 rpm.
My cam is 256/264º,small block,N.A. @ 60 mph Im just over 2,000 rpm
what are you worrying about?

|Blown496||I have had some recommendations for even smaller cams to get my cruise range in the 2000-2500. The 240/245 cam does not like that low rpm. Especially when I am in 5th under 2000rpm. My goal is to have a crisp responsive tire burner on cruise night and not have to deal with low speed cam surge and low vacuum. I would guess that the carbs would be fine unless I buzz it hard but I never go more that 5500rpm in short bursts.|

sounds like a very big engine to make not very much power?The cam is plenty mild.The carbs are very small even for a 350.I would double check the primary tube size? 1 3/4 sounds very small also.
I believe Tech is talking about the LDA and you are talking about ICL

|Blown496||Hyd. roller .600 lift, Edelbrock Perf RPM rect. port heads, Hedman 1 3/4 headers, dual Holley 4777 blower carbs. I know it is small by most standards but am more interested in street manners, power brakes and low rpm cruising. And why is it that BDS is the only one that uses 110lca while the rest of the world is 114?|
