I used to do the paper and pencil thing, but I was never very good at it.
Hats off to those who are
It was all I had when I was in school, but now it's more of a way to preserve an idea until I find the time to do something with it.
The computer works better for me because it gives me something I can see (I have never been able to visualize anything), and it gives me a uniform sense of scale I wouldn't have free hand.
That being said, this thread has me wondering whatever happened to the notebooks I had filled with drawings back in the 70's and 80's
Some of my drawings were wild Roth and Cushenberry influenced creations like a chopped and shortened '59 El Camino with gull wing doors, a front end patterned after Dave Crook's '58 Pontiac, and rear quarters made from '63 Chevy and '62 Pontiac panels with '58 Chevy tail lights; a chopped and sectioned '55 Chevy with Studebaker fins; and a finned '70 Camaro with '53 Buick headlights, a wild custom grill, and two sets of '54 Mercury tail lights turned sideways and recessed behind a Plexiglas panel. Then there was a flamed black Cobra with '56 Olds headlight rims and a 30's roadster with long streamlined fenders.
Also about that time, came and Olds, Buick, and Cadillac versions of the First Generation F-body. The Buick version was probably the best, with all the best pieces from the late-60's Rivieras scaled down to fit a Camaro body with long sail panels to give it a fastback profile. I remember when the Dodge Omni first came out in '79, and I did my own version with quad headlights from a Monza and a roof-line patterned after a Porsche 928 ... You can imagine my shock when the Chrysler Laser, which looked almost just like it, came out five years later

I posted in One of these Contest once.. Free hand and felt it was a waste of time against computer drawings,,, It's two to different class's of art,, I fell we would do better on this forum if we had two different contest,,, Sorry but that how I see this getting any better... I been drawing my whole life and I won't even try going against computer drawing's,,, They are well done and I don't take or have anything against anyone that could do it,, He** I want to get it a try too,, But wouldn't even know where to start,, Give me a pencil and some time not bilding cars and I enjoy doing it...I just have a hard time finding time because I don't sit still very long,,
Again I didn't want to put anyone's work down,, Keep up the great work EVERYONE,,, But I do feel it would make a big difference to have two contest..Just my two cents..

|cm324||This may or may not be considered "art" but it wasn't bad for a guy with no formal woodworking tools and seems to fit this month's topic. I made this as my entry in the adult races at my son's Scout Pack Pinewood Derby. It wasn't the fastest car out there but it looked real cool going down the track.|

Rest assured, I am gobsmacked by almost all the stuff I see here & elsewhere. Just because I don't say much doesn't mean yours & others work isn't wasted when posted up.
I respect all of you, regardless of whether you post in an art thread or not.
I need to use my pencils & pens more, rather than the keyboard.
