Hi Dan Tim
If you supply me your email address I will be happy to send you the installation instructions. You should be able to determine if it will work for your machine from that.

|StuV||If you would like to contact me privately with your email address, I would be more than happy to send you the changeover instructions. It's a 3 meg pdf file with complete instructions and pictures. From that you should be able to determine if it is suitable for your machine.|

sun distributor machine
How about a little more info? What's involved in the changeover? Will it work on my 506? And, of course,
what kind of expense is involved?

I have converted a model 504 with faulty flashtube to LED. If anyone is interested I can supply a kit to do this. It eliminates/replaces all the old high voltage electronics. Many different models use the same circuit as the 504. PM me if interested.

Can i both trigger on the Green the stobe light and fire the coil at the same time or will i get 12v thru the coil and damage the internal workings of the Sun, maybe do one or the other but not both?
The Red and Green wires joined and connected at the post is what is giving me pause.

The stud on the left is isolated and something clips to it - i think the alligator clip from the internal strobe light of the machine clips to it.
What hooks into the plug/connector - the box has no seperate power supply, one of those wires must be +12v supply for the box and the other 2?

I probed the connector and couldn't read any voltage. The pigtail has been added so I guess i need to go inside the machine to see where and what it is doing. I didn't see it when i redid the mechanicals and table etc, I didn't have that side of the machine apart.
It looks like a ford plug to me, anybody recognize it?

What a coincidence! I posted yesterday in the electrical section about adding a sparkplug rack and coil to my 504 machine to add the ability to test msd type ignitions. I am concerned with isolating the plugrcak & coils from the machine. What do you guys think?
I added a couple pictures in the original thread as well, i am working on it now adding the switches and an amp meter to the 12v power supply for the CD boxes.
As far as the HEI connection i thought you needed another box, mine has a pigtail and what looks like a connector for a ford - can this be used?

If you have a complete HEI distributor, you don't even need a pulse amplifier.
All you need is a 12 volt power source. I use a cheap wall-wort, plugged into
the back of the machine. There are three wires coming out of the dizzy.
One hot, one ground and the third is the trigger for the machine. Don't look
for a proper plug to match the harness on the dizzy. The only one made is
on the Kent-Moore module tester and they don't make that themselves. I've
got one, but it was a long struggle.

Mark Saunders, who posted his email above, is a great help. I had several discussions with him before buying my machine. And, then . . . .I bought a pulse amplifier from him. He's very knowledgable and seems to have about everything. He could even have various panels on you machine repainted, and he has silk-screen masks to make all the lettering come out perfectly. I was not that particualr, and my machine is no great looker. But it works, so it's fun to play with. I promise you won't regret talking with Mark.

|lust4speed||Bummer, the guy had been retired for quite some time from Sun when I posted the information back 4-1/2 years ago. Hopefully he just gave up on the side business and is spending his time fishing -- but he might just not be around anymore. Try the 800 number and see if those guys might have another number that would work for you. There's a ton of the old Sun machines out there, and maybe there is still a source for parts.|
