Saginaw power steering pump return line

Well, fitting the steering shafts wasn't too bad, but now I find the return line on the P/S pump hits it and has got to move. See arrow.

The straight area is too short to get a compression fitting onto it, it bends too close to the body.

I'm thinking of going at it with a hacksaw followed with a little silver solder and a piece of copper pipe. Anyone have a better plan?

Do you think I can loosen the original joint (silver solder???) and swing it a few degrees?

Thanks.

You could try a tubing bender to 'unbend' it some. Soldering it or undoing the existing connection and re-soldering it is asking for a leak, plus I don't think silver solder will stick to chrome.

You can't shorten it enough to make it work?

Also, the return line is low pressure, why are you trying to use a compression fitting, for looks?
