MARTINSR Yeah I don't get it, but it's not as bad as that Camaro on the "Come on now" thread!

MARTINSR Yeow, I'll pass on that one, not what I am after. But he did an awesome job with the theme that's for sure.

MARTINSR That's the thing, the "Theme" must be followed from front to rear bumper and every nut or bolt or things get lost. JUST putting fins would be horrible. It would take a LOT of very radical mods to front grille, lights, top (wrap around windows) and so forth.

My theme is more of a "styling exercise" where it's a modified version of the original still maintaining the originals looks where everyone knows exactly what it is.

Further gets you to this Buick Century.

Going further you get to the Firebird III.

I know this is some goofy thing bouncing around in MY head and until I get it done it will remain simply that. I need to get out there again.

gearheadslife I think I'd skip the fin's I don't think even g.m.'s show trucks would have them , back then..

MARTINSR In this "pod" I will have to have fins like the Corvette, but yes that is what I am thinking. Of course I am a bit ahead of myself being the cab is in a million pieces in the garage.

You guys have gotten me thinking. And putting it up at the top of the bed rail is getting more and more do-able to me. I am thinking of a "pod" with fins on it exactly as the Corvette. I want to get the real thing, I will be watching eBay for one. They turn up every once in a while.

what if you took a piece of big rig 4" exhaust pipe and made a pod that mounted off the bedside on the idea of the 40's cars that the headlight pods lifted out of the fenders,

instead of them being coming out of the cars front fender top, they'll be coming out of the bed side

What? Turning the grill insert of a '55 Pontiac into a dash isn't thinking far enough outside the box?
How about the ribbed center section from a '55 Holden FJ (still a GM product) grill?
And I keep looking at the parking light pods on a '51 Buick ...
Several possible uses for those, and '53-54 Chevy bumper guards have a similar shape

Meaning that the 30's Olds tail light pods are just about the right size to be turned around and used for bullets in the grill ... possibly with a '54 Olds bumper

OK ... You might take a good look at the head lights and the rear quarters of a '55 Olds
And how about working the center bar of a '55 Pontiac into the dash?

MARTINSR That's a good question, they are 4" in diameter. But I don't want to use anything that has too much of a "Known" look too, not off something so old because after all this is a NEW design in 1953.
