i may be acquiring a 70 model LT1. from what the guy tells me it was a crate motor and has about 50k miles original miles on it. it was overhauled about two years ago and still runs good. can anyone give me any specs on this engine?(is it different from the vette engine specifically) how much would an engine like this be worth? most importantly any tips on how to make sure this is an LT1 would be great also.

the LT1 engine, should have 11to1 compreesion pistons forged,(pink)forged connecting rods, steel crank, hydraulic lifter cam shaft with; intake .450 and exhaust .460 lift with 1.5 rocker arms. GM aluminum intake manifold part #14044836. and a 780 cfm holley carb, part # ???? double bump heads with accessery bolt holes,ie alternator, power steering bracket ,also under the vavle covers you should see screw in rocker arm studs and guideplates, when you see this they have 202 intake vavles and 1.6 exhaust vavles. unless some installed them. the block # at the bell housing should be 39????010 the id #on the front right bank behind the alt probably wont be there because it is a create engine. GM uused the same block for the Z28 302,327 and the 350, in 1968-69 so it may be hard to determine if it is a Z28 302 or a LT1 350, because GM used all the same external parts??? excepted for the harmonic balancer LT1 is 8 inch by 1 11/16 wide damper id #2224. 1968 302 and 327 used 8 inch damper 1 11/16 id #7173 and 1969 302 were 8 inches by 1 5/16 id #7708. the other way is by the flywheel flange, 302 had one notch cut in them ,327 ???? and 350 had two notches in them .the corvette used ram horn manifolds and the camero used the truck style manifolds. i hope this will help you some. check some of the camero web sites for more info

I would get as many part #s as you can and get back to us or a good reference. If the seller has a genuine LT-1, I would think he keeps good care of it and it's not all cobbled or gunked up so getting the numbers shouldn't be a problem. Don't fall for a pretty set of valve covers...not for $2500!
PS: I think the heads should have been 3973487; the 492s were service replacement heads. Also, the intake should be a Holley type aluminum, # 3959594 for '71-'72. #3972110 was used in '70.
