How does the radiator support bracket mount to the fender on a 1947 ford coupe. I know the inner fender well bolts to rad. Bracket but what are brackets with a hole and slot for . The rad. Has one on each side as does rad. Support bracket. Thanks to Martin for his info and suggestion where to post my question. Thanks everyone.
Well my advice didn't do a whole lot for you did it! Sorry, but reading your post again something hit me. It sounds like you are describing the brackets for the rad support rods.
Most every car of the vintage had a rod that went from the side of the rad support up to the fire wall. They commonly slip into a slotted hole on one end. Those brackets would often use the fender bolts to attach them. Check the distance on the fender bolts up there and see if they match these brackets.
Yes. I looked at my 48 B-coupe and the "U" shaped center mounting yoke bolts to a vertical channel that in term bolts to the inner fender. My support rods were eliminated many years ago.
I don't remember my 47 conv having support rods. If it did they disappeared before I bought it in 1972. A friend still owns it and drives it regularly. Between us we have driven the car for 40 years without them.
I have a stock '47 Ford V8 flatty Super Deluxe 5-Passenger Coupe Sedan. It never had a rod brace of any sort on the radiator. It did have, and perhaps this is the answer, a four bladed steel fan which was surrounded by a factory installed 5 inch wide sheet metal circular air flow guide in the inside of the raditator which was the factory's attempt to increase the fan's cooling effect. It was not effective. I removed it (still have it) and instead installed a six-bladed fiberglas fan. No cooling problems now. This sheet metal circular air flow guide I removed has steel brackets around it which attached to the top of the radiator and the fender wells on each side. I could provide a photo but I don't think it would help.
There is a Triangled metal panel that goes between the radiator cradle and the inter fender on each side.These also bolt to the lower valance and the fender extensions. There never was surport rods
