|deuce_454||honestly the short block looks fine, but i dont think it is what you are looking for, i mean then you will need a set of heads, an intake, distributor and a carb, which will put you arround the prica for a complete Merlin 540 which in my oppinion is much more what you are looking for. tonnes and tonnes of tourque in a motor that works right out of the box, no missmatched stuff, no guesswork just drop in and go.|

Big block help...
I'm looking into building up a motor to drop into my Jeep. Haven't definitely decided yet, but so far, I'm leaning toward a big block Chevy. Vehicle weight is going to be around 5200 lbs, and I need enough motor to push the Jeep around with some authority at the sand dunes. Tranny will be either SM420 or NV4500, most likely (stick shifts). Axles are Rockwells with 6.72's, and tires will be at least 42's. I'm aiming for NA horsepower in the 600 range, and then 200 or so more from nitrous. I'd also like to keep it fuel injected (to run at steeper angles offroad), but if that's going to be too expensive to do right now, I can run it carbed for awhile.
I've looked into the RamJet 502, but the Ram Jet system doesn't support nitrous. The ZZ502 with an aftermarket fuel injection system may work. But I'm not sure how good of a deal these are. Is it possible to build up a better performing big block for less money than this? Also found this shortblock:
