87442lover 383 stroker. I would recommend a mid size cam, .500 lift, adv dur. around 270x280 (around 210x220 .050). This will not create such overlap and give you a strong idle with enough power at idle to drive everything. Anything more than that would be a mis-match since the 383 is more of a torquer than a HP engine. Plus the extended stroke limits your RPMs so using a high RPM high dur cam would be fruitless.

Triplany Thanks for the responses. I am going to contact the cam manufacturers but was looking for some real life experiences (or recomendations based on experience) as well.

firestone With those heads on a 383, you will be limited to around 6500 RPM which is ok, you can still make great hp, and your torque will be through the roof with the smaller runners. With out a doubt, go with the Performer RPM air gap. I have seen several tests done with this intake vs the Victor junior, on motors operating under 6500 RPM, and the RPM wins every time overall. Here is the cam that I would recommend Comp Cams XR280R (2500-6500 RPM, 242 248 dur @ .050 .570 .576 lift) This cam would work quite well.

you should find something there. i have read (do alot on the john) that solid roller cams really arnt that much of a pain in the butt as regular solid lifters: that they dont need adjusting all that often, so they are more aggressive if you feel inclined to adjust them once in a while where as you may not want to spend the time with a standard solid cam

gt2betubbed The best cam advise comes from the company that you want to buy a cam from. You need to know how you want it to perform. Do you want a high rev'n motor, or a low end torquer. Also, what gears do you have in the rear? The intake will also depend on these questions. Since you have such nice peices, I'm guessing you want a high rev'n racer. Throw in some nice low gears like 3.73's or 4.11's and a single plane intake, then call the cam mfg'r and see what they recommend. They'll let you know what will work well, and can even get that sound you want. Good luck!

Cam Advice

I am currently building a 383 stroker. The car is going to be driven street/strip (it's not my daily driver) I am looking for some recomendations on a cam. I want something with a noticeable idle but can still power my accessories. I am also looking at Solid Roller. here is my current buildup

350 4bolt 30 over
Eagle 4340 Forged crank
Eagle 4340 H beam Rods
SRP Forged Flat Top -5cc pistons
Dart Pro 1 200 runners 72cc heads
aprox compression is 10.2:1

I haven't nailed down my intake yet either.

Any brand/model recomendations for a cam?
