Thanks for id'ing me. All was as I figured. I was giving it a long shot on the forged pistons, but what the hell.
The Kenn-Belle was exactly what I was looking at for SC.
I'll think what I will do for now is run it stock and save up a few K. Then I'll look for an HO and start rebuilding from there, that way I can take my time and build one motor while I drive with the stocker.

if you plan to do a supercharged motor id say you have a perfect starting point, just get a set low compression pistons (which you propably would have had to get anyway) and blower grind camshaft, which also is a must for decent power. so your starting piont is just as good as any HO motor.

|mustang66maniac||if its not a HO then it doesn't have forged pistons. The crank is the same, i dont know about the conecting rods though. You can put heads and intake on it to make it an HO along with a roller cam, then change the firing order and of course forged pistons. I have a set of E7TEs (87-93mustang heads) if you want to buy them off me. If you have a roller cam block, it will take both flat tappet cam/lifters and roller tappet cam/lifters. If you put in a roller cam you will need the spider assembly to keep the lifters from twisting. If I were you I would just grap an ECM from a wrecked mustang.|

You have the vanilla flavored 5.0.
2FA is the FORD Motor Company World Manufacturer I.D. (In this case FORD Motor Company of Canada)
B is active seat belts
P is passenger car
79 is Series Code (80/ LTD Contry Squire-LX)
F is the Engine Code (80/ 302 5.0L CFI/EFI) E is for the H.O.
4 is a check digit (unimportant)
K is the assembly year (1989)
X is the assembly plant (St. Thomas)
168089 is the scheduled sequence of assembly
The other tag is the Emissions Tag and only identifies the engine and how it was assembled compliant to emission law.
You will have cast pistons.
If you are thinking of supercharging later, you will want low compression forged pistons (aftermarket). It will be a roller block, but most likely assembled with flat tappets. The heads are different as well as the intake manifold(s). Of course, cam timing is different.
You have a good basic start but much needs to be upgraded. Have you thought of a Kenne-Belle low profile supercharger?

OK ... I couldn't get to the engine #, but firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. Standard 5.0 as I figured. Vin is 2FABP79F4KX168089. labels under the hood read: 5.0-9Hm KFM.50.V5HPF4
Anyone know if a Ford dealership can give specs based on ViN? Or website etc.
Another thread says may be a roller cam block, (But not have roller lifters? just able to be put in?!?) and most likely plain vanilla guts. Still doesn't answer the piston question.
SO...IF it has different firing order than a HO, and it does have forged pistons, IS the crank different than the HO? I.E. can I add HO intake, cam, roller lifters, ECM etc to upgrade it to HO specs. May not be worth it, but the plans call for starting with a short block and building up the top end with a mild supercharger, cam, heads and intake pieces.

I have a 91 T-Bird with the HO motor in it. I was told that the HO motor has the 351 fire order
1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 I beleive the 91 HO was the last year for the Forged pistons.

The CROWN will most likely have a roller block with roller lifters, but that is as far as it will go. Cam timing, head assemblies and intake manifolds will be different (as well as pistons).
Not trying to be testy...Just don't want you to get your hopes up...
And if I ever seem to be getting testy, I am sure there will be someone here to put me back in my place...

I would think a quick peak at the firing order should tell you whether or not it's an HO. If it has a standard 5.0 firing order 15426378 it's not an HO. HO firing order should be 13726548.

|50Ford F1Panel||OK, OK lets not get testy here, just curious bit of questioning. I'm going to check out the motor in more detail this weekend, but I doubt it's an H.O., it is a wagon ya know! I'm quite sure there's no roller lifters in it unless the little ol' lady I got it from was a motorhead. I promise, I'll follow up with the otor numbers ad if I can find out what's inside from there, I'll post the results.|

but yea, the H.O. motor does have the forged pistons 351W firing order, and roller lifters opposed to the traditional hydraulic

Correct regarding the H.O. engine. '86 to 92 used forged aluminum. In '93 FORD went to hypereutectic
The Crown didn't use the H.O. engine (except possibly police).

|mustang66maniac||I believe only the 5.0 H.O. (high output) motors came with forged pistons. These are the ones that came in mustangs, capris, and I think thunderbirds. I could be wrong though. If it still has the intake manifold on it, It'll say if its a 5.0 H.O. right on top.|
