I have been fighting with a spark knock for over a year. Thinking myself somewhat mechinical, i was flustrated when i could not figure this one out.I think sometimes we don`t see the way because we are too close to the problem. I had set the timing at 10 degrees just like the book said to do for a 350 Chev. That didn`t work. I timed it with a vaccum gauge, and that didn`t work. I even blocked all four wheels , had a buddy sit inside with one foot on the brake and stomp on the throttle. That didn`t work. The only way it would run even close to right was on premiun with octane booster. And don`t even think about regular no lead. It sounded like it was coming apart. Then while on here one night i saw a guy having a problem just like mine. One of the response was very inlightening. It seems early 350 was timed at 4 bdtc. That cured it. I love learnin new stuff. And some times when you have to wait , to get your answer ,it is even cooler!!!! So thanks to the masked man with the correct information i needed. You made my day and the truck will run on regular no lead. Ha!!!! At 30 cents a gallon cheaper.Plenty of power.I love this site.
