I have been reading the post here for a while now, mostly on cam selection which is my main interest at this time. The board here is full of useful information,"I am using it as a learning tool"In a post called "cam mistake" the cam I have chosen was named. It is the comp roller 12-422-08.I asked the guy that is setting up my heads"world sportsmanII"what he thought and he said it was at the bottom of his list, to go a little larger. The vehicle is a jeep cj with a 355 and turbo 350 with a 2200 converter. The compression is 9.7@72cc"the heads are 72cc"The use will be muddy trails and some mud racing at the local bog with highway use.It has 38" tires with 4.88 gear.Keep in mind all mud racing will be done in low range so gear wont be a problem. My main question is in my cam choice.Am I being to conservative? Thanks for any input.Joe

The CJ doesn't really weigh very much. The tires you have are pretty tall. The gear you have helps to offset the tire size. The converter you have is a good choice for the application and the cam? I would call it a perfect choice. You could get away with a slightly longer duration and a tighter lobe separation but the power would peak quickly. Conservative is always better.

Is this mostly race or you doing some 4 wheeling with buddies. Bogging I am familiar with as I wrenched on on 66 Super Sport that was on a k5 blazer frame and at the time we did all the engines for T-Ray and and TNT T-Bucket in the late 80's. 611 CID BBC injected with NOS. Power for those motors has to be instantanous. I would really think about what you want to do with the CJ, and then have max effort cam for that sport and sacrifice some on the other side.

I called Comp cam's today and told them that i was think'in about one of there retro-fit roller cam's for my 355sbc, and what i wanted to know is witch one of the roller cam's is comprable to the EX262 flat tappet cam, and what he told me was the (12-422-8) and the (12-423-8) would be comprable to the EX268 flat tappet cam. And when asked how much c/r would be needed to run the (12-423-8) his reply was hed would like to see atleast a 9.8 compression ratio for this cam. (hope this help's) good luck:thumbup:

The jeep will be used for mudding with friends on the weekends and some mud bogging. The pits here are a mix of see how fast you can cross it and how far you can get in the pit.The guy setting up my heads does a lot of work on the mud racing trucks in my area and wants me to go larger on cam but I dont want to totaly kill my mudding with friends trips. This is not a daily driver but will go to the beach some.Sorry if I keep asking redundant questions,I just want to exhaust all options for information before I drop a grand on cam and valvetrain.Again thanks for any responce.Joe.

Yea i understand some of what your try'in to do, it's just that for my set up the (12-422-8) was chosen, im try'in to build a daily driver and crouser out of my 3900lbs 1/2 to GMC shortbox, with just 9.3 c/r so it sound's to me that you might want the (12-423-8) or something larger, because in mudd i would say that you really need to rev-it up:thumbup:
