well boys, this is one time i'm glad to be a cannuck. we have no regulations regarding exhaust, there is no sniffer trucks that i,ve ever seen in nova scotia, once or twice a year the dept. of transport will have a roadblock (thats bad) but i've never been stopped in my life.
the local garage will install with no cats and certify it. the only deal is if i ever get caught with the bad exhaust, tell them i just did it since the last inspection.that goes for the 295/50/15's on the 75 vette too.

First thing I would do is put Virginia in my rear view mirror. Next to California, no other state has such idiotic motor vehicle laws. Or if not bring your vehicle to Western North Carolina and you can get what ever exhaust system you want installed and then fight with your state inspectors every year.

Fiscus thanks for the link but I've already looked into a prebent system but none of them end in the correct location for the trans am "quad pipe" exhaust tips that i wish to put back on. The only company that does provide this system is pypesperformace, but their system doesn't allow space for catalytic converters. My friend is aware of what you would call the "muscle car" shop around town, its possible that they would weld it up, though I haven't asked or been quoted a price yet. If they could weld up the duals I hope I could still get inspection stickers. My dad is really big on that too, trying to keep it so everything will pass inspection, though we've already scrapped the computer and about 90% of the smog pump hoses. (exhaust manifold and cat aspiration tubes all gone). Anyone had bad inspection stickers encounters after putting "true" duals on a single cat car?|

I am not sure what companies make exhaust systems for your car, I looked around and couldent find much. I would do like someone else said and go to an exhaust shop to get a custom bent system. As far as the dumps go, you dont have to open them on the streets, but I know how parents can be, on my first hot rod, my dad and I had talked my mom into loaning me the money for a motor, it was a stock headed 9.5:1 355 with a stock bottom end and 330 hp. She said yes, and we told the builder to get started. My mom went to work and someone there told her that since the motor was balanced that meant it was a racing motor. She said that because of that she wasent going to pay for it and we had to tell the builder who had the motor half built that we couldent pay for it.

Find out where the the muscle car guys get their exhaust work done in your town, there should be some place in your city that will do it. If worst come to worst you could order a kit off summit and install it yourself, they have some nice cheap ones.

but seriously, theres no way im doing exhaust dumps, I'm 17 years old and my dad wouldn't be too happy the noise. I'm lucky enough he let me buy a ZZ4.

i say build the exhaust the way they want it then add two cable operated cut outs when you get home.
and when they pull u over and inspect, if they dont like it,
do a big *** smokin burn out and flip em off.......[SIZE=1]just before you go to jail of course.[/SIZE]

|Chadman||Thats what I think im going to end up doing, not the exhaust dumps though. Single cat that spreads back out into duals was stock on the trans am. Still like to get others opinions on the dual exhaust thing and what not. But your saying it is possible to go from the headers to single cat?, it seems as if it would be a 90 degree bend from the drivers side header over the the passenger side pipe and another 90 degree bend blended into the other pipe and cat. Would this stock setup help the cat work almost as an H or X pipe set up? I'm not too sure if the scavenger capabilities are able to occur within the cat itself. thanks for the reply firestone. I dont know if this is someting that they would do, but I would run exhaust dumps right off of the headers, and then have the exhaust go into one with a single cat. If you wanted to after that you could have it break back into duals for the sound and looks. That way it would still have good sound/performance on the street, and still pass the single cat rule, but you could uncork the exhaust at the track and have open headers. I ran a similar setup on a car of mine (no cats though it was a 72) and it worked very well.

yes, another exhaust thread
Thanks in advance for viewing my post even though there are a thousand exhaust posts already. Ok, here goes.
Just finished putting a ZZ4 crate motor in my 81 Trans (2nd Generation F-body) and I need to get exhaust welded up soon. I put new Hooker long tube headers and sawzalled everything out from those back. For the new setup, I want true duals with 2 cats, mufflers and and H pipe. I've asked two local muffler shops around town, and both say they cannot weld that setup because it will be illegal. They say I need one single (giant) cat that came like the stock exhaust. I could go with a highflow cat of this type aswell. My question is has anyone had long tube headers with this single cat setup. Also, how am I seeing so many 70-81 F-body cars with true duals, getting inspection stickers, I know for most of that 2nd gen. era they all had the Y pipe exhaust with single cat. If I am able to get a shop to weld up true duals, which cats are prefered for the set up, since the single cat will no longer be receiving air injection from the air pump, and i dont have the O2 sensors before and after on dual exhaust (needed for new cats to work correctly with correct air fuel ratio). If Virginia starts implementing the sniffer test which i hear they might do, i would like to pass....or end up getting antique tags.Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.
