|Frank K||The trans is a 400, I run BFG 285/70/15 31" high tires on the street. I do alot of 2700- 2900 rpm driving. 75-85 mph. This motor (9.5 comp. 30 over 455) is about 4 yrs. old. I've been driving the car for 24 summers and have 84,000 mi. on it. Half Dragstrip,ha,ha. 3000 isn't that high is it? My rear is a 10 bolt, that scares alot of guys also. Thanks.|

What's your tranmission? And what cruising RPM do you want to run? 500 miles at high RPM sounds like you don't plan on running very many seasons.
The trade off is huge power and speed = short engine life.
Unless you want a trailer queen.
But this is my limited experince talking.

Anyone run a mild BB, 3:08 gear, 3000 stall?
I know there are warnings on this combo...I figure if I get a converter that doesn't slip too much cruising at 2700-3000 it would be okay. I run a mild 461 Olds in a '38 Chev dr. It has run a best of 12.77 at 104.55 with 26" BFG Drag Radials. Desk Top Dyno predicted 12.77 at 105. I don't shift past 4800 and will never go over 5000. The program says 3:42 gears will improve e.t. by .10 sec., 2600 stall .37 and 3000 stall .44 improvement.
This is all at 75F (temp).
My motor makes most of it's almost 500 lbs of torque at 2000.
This info is very interesting...some people must of tried this...what does the real world results say? I want to be able to drive 500-700 mi. to race Nostalgia Drags along with my local track,35 mi. away(Toronto Motor Sports Park, Cayuga, ON. Thanks .
