Hello,

I have a 1972 El Camino with a 350 in it. I am trying to find out if my block is a 2 or 4 bolt main. It is not the orginal motor. The casting number is 14016379. I looked up the numbers on the block and it said 77-79 and it could be a 2 or 4 bolt main. Is it possible for me to remove the stock oil pan while the motor is still in the car so I can check to see if it has 2 or 4 bolt mains?

Thank You

I wouldn't remove it unless there is a bad oil leak. On my Camaro I have removed and replaced the oil pan using my engine puller. I loosened the tranny mounts and took out the motor mount bolts. It lifted the engine and trans up just enough to get the pan off. It took me all day and was a pain in the rear to say the least. I was lucky that it sealed up well when I put the pan back on.
