I've heard about this LS-1 engine by Chevy, I think its used in police interceptors and probably some Camaros or Corvettes. I'm guessing its some kind of small block, but I would like to find out more information about it, and how well it can transplant into another kind of GM car (probably Chevy or Pontiac), and how the wiring and computer is compatable or incompatable with other SBC's. I know some of these special engines can maybe fit in the same kind of body, but the engine computers might have to be rewired and not make it worth your while. If you all can give me a bunch of info on the LS-1, I would be thankful.

THanks,

Joseph

Native,

Its an all aluminum small block.....it did not come in police cars...however it did in firebirds, and trans ams...I do not believe it shares any components with the older smallblocks nor the 92-96 LT1 motor. There are so many forums with LS1 specific websites and forums that it would take a while to list them....several companies offer harnesses for mods and PCMforless does the computer edits. Try LS1.com and do a search on google for the same. Alot of folks have transplanted them into 67-72 trucks and you can search about this on the 67-72 forum as well.

They are very expensive to mod but do respond well to mods. My Firebird now goes 12.31 @ 111.8 (1200' density altitude), still gets 18mpg in town with an automatic trans. I've done cam, heads, long tubes, cutout, torque converter, intake, that's about it.

There are others but this particular site is not full of posers.

Thanks again for your good web references...also those who PM'd me. I did a little reading and was wondering how the LT1 compares to the LS1. I think I like the LS1 because it seems to be a good performer plus it isn't a gas hog. Besides I guess I'm bored with 350 SBC's everywhere. They should rename Summit and JEGS SBC and SBC Jr.

If any of you were doing a project that was replacing a 4.3 V-6-sized GM vehicle with one of the above, what would you choose? I have something in mind, so I'm not just blowing air or anything.

Thanks again,

Joseph
