|firstname.lastname@example.org||My father-in-law swore by that stuff - both times he changed to oil in his car in 10 years. If your engine was new or freshly rebuilt and you have been good and changed your oil every 3000 miles with good grade detergent oil, it isn't necessary. In fact, it gives me the willys (pardon the pun) to think of running my bearings and cam in solvent. A lot of chemicals like STP, top oil, and this crankcase flush stuff were invented in the beginning of last century because lubrication technology, metalurgy, and engine technology were in their infant stages. Truth be told, they aren't needed anymore and could cause more damage than they do good.|

|gaino||I bought a can of engine flush one time.. it smelled just like kerosene, but cost more. look at what drains out of the pan... how about pull a valve cover and see how gunked up it is. If it worked really good you may have to pull the pan to clean the strainer. But if I was going to do that. I would use the engine flush a couple of times|

|gaino||probly won't hurt... don't run it too long. I have heard of people using kerosene, and I have fleshed 1 v6 by just pouring k1 into the valve cover with the engine off and the drain plug open.One thing you may want to think about is if you break a lot of crap loose in the engine that you can clog an oil pickup screen.HOw old and how dirty in the motor?|

I have heard adding a pint or two of ATF to the engine just before changing the oil will help flush out any sludge and stuff.
Is this a good idea or a bad idea?
