Anybody got any ideas on how to get rid of the dog smell in a Durango? (Yeah I know get rid of the dog!) I've got a chance to make a great score on a Durnago, but it's been professionally detailed, and it STINKS! I know somebody out there has had this problem, and has a way to get rid of the stink! SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!

What Kevin said.

But just in case you're in a hurry to get rid of the smell, you could cover it up with a less noxious odor like cat pee.:drunk:

No really, I remember this stuff called X-14 that you could get at the store, it really works great. I take it the smell is too strong to be overcome by something like those new car scent de-odorizers?

dog smell answer

Just wanted everyone to know that a simple remedy of getting dog smell , smoke , or any noxis smell is mix distilled white vinegar and water in a spray bottle, about 1/2 cup of vinegar to two (2) cups of water, spray everything down carpet and seats and let stand with windows down for a couple of hours on a warm day and the odor should go away, may take acouple times if strong odor. And vinegar will not stain:p

Pheeewww!!

Actually Chevyluvnpuppy might have the answer to that one, she works for a vet clinic. My suggestion is this stuff WE bought from our vets office called KOE -- Kennel Odor Eliminator. It's a concentrated formula and this stuff even gets rid of cat pee smell (which if you have a cat, you know is IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of).
Our vets office uses it when cleaning the cages and kennels, and their office never smells bad.
Pup, ever hear of this stuff?

:D My brother had a cat pee on his leather jacket once, he eventually threw it away 'cause he could always smell it. I never could, but I think he did only because he knew it was there. Kinda' wierd how that works huh?

Unfortunately time is the only thing that makes musty smells go away, if the cause of the smell has been elimintated. New carpet usually gets rid of the smell pretty good provided your vehicle is not subjected the same thing that caused it in the first place: IE: leaky car, dogs, smoking, whatever.

I had a car get full of water during a flood and I even removed the carpet and let it air dry in the sun for several days but it took about 2 yrs for that stinch to finally leave the vehicle. New carpet would have cured it but I didn't care.

Easy is best

The best and oldest is the white vinegar and water. Mistake people make is not enough on the carpet. You need to get to the pad. So, either soak it good, not standing water, or open up the carpet so you can get to the pad also. In old houses with that popcorn ceiling you can use this stuff to clean the stains. Headliners come clean also. But, I guess if you drive a DESOTO you are old enough to remember these things.

We use to own a dry-cleaning plant. On the wet side of processing cloth we had an odor killer called Exit. When I would hand clean rugs and upholstery I would use that along with a mild soap in our little bissel green machine. See if you can find a cleaners that will give or sell some to you it runs about $18 per gallon. Aside from that you could dissolve a double or tripled concentrate of 20 Mule Team Borax there company info from the back of there box, if you can't find it in the laundry detergent aisle (it's a cream and teal colored box with red writing and horses pulling wagons) their information is 1800 457-8739 or www.purex.com

Hope this helps!!!

New to Board and First post. We all have to be new at some time. Let me know if I did not do this the "correct way"
I have had great results from a product by Neutron Industries called D-Molish.

I first used it on Furinture for a cat problem. Have used it on the cars with fresh mice nest's in them. We all know how nice that smell can be. I took out two 55 gallon trash cans full of mice and nests. They stored bird seed in the trunk. After treating it smell was all gone. It is a Enzime product that you mix 50/50 with water and spray it down good & Let it sit. The longer you keep it damp the better penatration you will get. Hope this helps. :p

I asked my brother-in-law, he's in the car finishing business. He paints them and puts new carpet and recovers seats and sell's them and stuff to make a living. Anyway the dude told me to tell you to rent a steam cleaner like for doing furnature inside your house and steam clean the seats and carpets, they probably have dog pee on them.;) Oh yea, get the stuff with the deoderizing agent to do the job right.
