deuce_454 thanx guys, 302/z28 im not getting insane overspray, it was just a way to say that the high pressure gun puts more paint into the air than onto the car and the pattern isnt really smooth or symetrical, also it seems to have a 1-2 inch wide area in the paint pattern where it seems to deposit more paint than elsewhere (yes its clean) ill propably get a porter cable hvlp with the bigger nossle for the waterborne paint and do the clear with the suction gun with the 1.4. i find it easier to controll the solvent borne clear with a smaller nossle. i currently have 4 unpainted project cars so its worth buying quality stuff for me...

mikeweyman hey deuce. In the last year delta /portercable bought devillbiss.
I recently bought a hvlp porter cable(devillbiss )top feed spray gun for 135.$ cdn. I have painted several vehicle with this gun and love it. It has only a 1.7 nozzel, so you are limited as to how big a metal flake you can use and also how big a rig you can paint(not fast enough for really big jobs)but it does a good job just the same.
It looks a lot like the cheaper guns but it has all brass innerds, the cheapo has a plastic piece in the front wich wont last as long.

Blowing on Flames Spies Hecker waterbourne is wonderful stuff. As long as you reduce to the right viscosity (22 seconds through a Zahn 4 with demineralized water), it will spray nice with any properly adjusted gun. I personally prefer Sata products. I did buy two Harbor Freight HVLP guns after all the talk on this forum and they do work very nice if you are not spraying everyday. If you need tech sheets...Let me know......Bryan

302 Z28 You can pay $500 for a name brand gun and get a $250 paint job with it. You can also pay $49 for a Harbor Freight gun and get a great paint job from it. It is all in how you adjust it and use it. I am getting great results with my Harbor Freight HVLP gun. If you are getting splatters and insane overspray, then you are doing something seriously wrong. I suggest that before you lay out $400-$500 on a high quality gun, learn how to get the cheap one adjusted properly. Sata, Devilbiss, Binks just to name a few are great guns that can be had for less than $500.

paint gun

paint gun. ok ive decided to paint my mini truck (beater) to get the hang of painting other than my old quarterpanel and the left over mustang trunk lid. i have an el-cheapo gravity feed gun for touch up work (i use it instead of rettlecan paint) and a low price suction type.

Ive been looking at buying a better paint gun, so i dont get splaters and insane overspray of my gravityfeed, and dont waste paint like in my suction feed gun (in too cheap to use the suction feed gun with 100$/quart paint.) now here is my question id like to get a HVLP gun but i dont think 4-500$ is a fair price, how cheaply can i buy a hvlp gun before it starts to show in the paint???

btw.For the people whove read my other posts on garage paint job: the color ive chosen is 2001 AUDI Nimbus grey, BC/CC. Im going to buy it from Spies & Hecker, and some of the paints like the build primer/sanding and the BC is water based high solid, all isocyanate stuff, and the clear is some solvent based

Does this affect paint gun choice and nossle size??
