All depends on how the vehicle was driven. You can find hi mileage cars that have mostly highway miles and the cat lasts forever. Stop and go driving plugs them up, they don't heat up enough to burn out all the crap.
Those large flat GM converters were quite restrictive. The smaller honeycomb ones are much better, and cheaper.
The Summit ones are supposed to quite good.

1986 Catalytic converter with 155,000 on it
Hello, I have heard mixed ideas on converters. Do they plug after 100,000 miles on them? Mine is the gm wide type with beads in it. Is it a good idea to replace it. The guys at summit racing said anything after 100,000 on the cat, its time to replace it, but are they just trying to sell me a converter?
