|joakes||The suffix code is on the little pad in front of the passenger side cylinder head. Probably have to swing the alternator back to see it. The number is stamped not cast. Usually have to clean it off to read as sometimes the stamp is not very deep. One set of the numbers is a partial vin of the vehicle it came from. The other has the suffix, it is the last 3 letters. i was told the motor was an LT1, where is the front deck pad located? i need to find that suffix code to be sure i guess.

|DoubleVision||your engine could be 1 of 3 engines lightspeed, a 302 from a 68 or 69 Z28, extremely rare and a very valuble find, or a industrial truck 327 from the same years, or the most common that carry`s this number, a 350. best way to tell is to get the suffix code stamped on the front deck pad on the passengers side. check out www.mortec.com if ya ever need casting numbers. suffix codes are also easily avalible as well on various websites. keep in mind though,, a 302 crankshaft flange would be round, while the 327 and 350`s are shaped like a mushroom.|

i have a chevy engine, found some numbers on it, not sure if they are the right ones but here goes 3970010, the fourth zero may be a nine it was kind of hard to tell. thanks in advance.
