I seriously doubt you will ruin your crankshaft even with a balancer that wasnt mad for your car on there. If you see it vibrating more than you like just shut the car off and take your balancer off and have a shop inspect it to make sure its true. If it is then you have more issues with your engine then you would hope to have
I have cracked balancers and drove home around 2 miles from where it happened and it did not ruin anything (but then again probably one of my lucky moments).
Just get a new balancer and put it on there

|machine shop tom||You can take the balancer to a shop that balances and have them check it on the balance machine. If there's somthing wrong with it, they'll find it then. We check out all the balancers we sell and all that come in with balance jobs.|

|JUSTINH||What is the chance of a bad harmonic balancer ruining my crankshaft? So if I just slap it on and it runs fine for a year but all the while it is wobbling on my crank and wearing it down???|

At this point, I'd take a chance and just put it on. Worse case scenerio - you still have to pull the engine to have it balanced.

Balanced daily driver
I have a Buick 425 on a 65 Riviera. Daily driver. So low RPMS. I am installing a new harmonic balancer (40 year old one cracked). Assuming that it doesnt vibrate noticeably, should I get it balanced. Buicks are externally balanced and the engine is in the car. How much would it cost? What kind of shop does such a thing?
I know HI-performance engines should be balanced, but what about a low rpm torguer like a Buick?
