P&G Shifter Review

Hey Guys.

I have a customer who bought a 2.99 1st gear M23Z for his vintage-look Super Stock camaro. Its a street car with a pretty rough and tumble 383 and a 3.42(?) rear gear in a 12 bolt. It should be an E-ticket ride for a street car.

He was very unsatisfied with the quality of the Hurst shifter he bought. I pressed him for a Long shifter; and he shows up with a P&G that needs a little elbow grease.

Did anyone out there actually have one? Were there any issues? Do we need to be overly critical about anything or modify anything to make it function the way you'd expect it to.

Its really not much different than a 'Competition Plus.' I think the throw might be a little bit shorter. The small knob is...interesting. The real star of the show is the chrome handle. Its a gorgeous stamping; but the downer for the company is the handle is part of the assembly. You cant buy this shifter and swap a handle on it without disassembling the unit. It is easier to disassemble than the Hurst boxes however. Incidentally; it has a Hurst linkage on it presently. Also; the reverse lockout on this one is 'all-thread' with a plastic tube slipped over it. No idea if it was factory or a field repair; no matter, I'll put a piece of round bar in its place.
All in all; if you can find one for new production Hurst money; and use an old Hurst linkage and bracket...you'll have a nice piece.

Anyone else have any commentary?
