Been told I am crazy, but this is one crazy guy that will be out driving his cars, while the cheapsters are running all over getting the GOOD price and then spending the rest of their life making the junk ..... fit, work and then replacing when broke... OBTW that was me that just drove by...

I can't speak for Bob or Crane Cams but, I do know that many of the very same basic hydraulic flat tappet grinds made by Crane are available from variuos companies. Some of them are probably made by Crane and others by shops with a cam grinder and a duplicate of the master used to make these cams. This may have been what Bob was referring to.
Since the leveraged buyout of Crane Cams I haven't given them a dime of my money and I never will. Harvey Crane is a living legend in my opinion and was forced out of the company he built, and that bears his name. To this day he has nothing to do with Crane cams.

While Googling, I came across an old response from Crane Cams to this thread. Just posting it here for posterity. Here's the link: http://www.cranecams.com/?show=newsLetters&no=128 . I have NO CLUE as to the truth of their statement, but here's the relevant quoted text:

|Blazin72||Any of the cams I have used have all been Comp. Not sure why but I always seem to migrate toward their stuff. I do have one Isky though but the engine hasnt been run yet.|

I've only used Edelbrock and Erson- I must say the Erson is preforming quite well. I got one made for like $130- I was rather happy.
BTW that's in a pontiac 151 4 banger.

|predator carb guru||for my racing engines, erson all the way. for street and just about everything in between, crane. i do like the comp cams extreme energy 4x4 cams though, as they make great power all around in the advertised rpm ranges. just got to be sure that you get the right one for your application.|

Not trying to dedge up an old post, but I though I'd give Comp Cams a pat on the back. I lost a lobe on the 294S I was running after almost 4000 miles and 3 yrs later. I called, explained what had happened. They offered to take a look at the cam to tell me why it had failed. They could not come up with a reasonable answer and after a lot of talk back and forth they are replacing the cam and lifters.
Cudos to Comp Cams on this one.
