tresi That one in the picture will do stock spring if you only use it every once in a while. Heavy spring loads or if you do a lot head work you'll want something stronger.

MI2600 I've used the levers types, but they seem to push the spring off center.

I inherited a compressor from my Dad that has two arms that engage the spring coils and it has a knob on top for tightening it down. He welded a 5/8" nut on the top of the knob so a socket can be used. Works good for me and it leaves both hands free for handling those pesky keepers. I've seen them for sale...can't remember where though.

troy-curt I have a air operated "C" clamp type, that I have used for more than 30 years, and two different lever type. They are all I've ever needed.

johnsongrass1 Same here. The head on engine tool works really well as long as you can hold it there long enough to get the keepers in. It's a big help if you have a buddy who can do one of those two. One major downfall is if you are using triple springs with loads of 600 pounds over the nose. Then the mechanical advantage the give you isn't enough.

302 Z28 Personally I do not like that style, imo they are difficult to use. The style I prefer is the one that looks like a big "C" clamp. If the head is still on the engine I prefer the one that goes over the rocker stud and is a lever that compresses the spring while air is used to pressurize the cylinder.

anyone have opinions on these valve spring compressors?

found out these same valve spring compressors are going on sale in about a weeks time at a store up here, same brand even.

So does anyone have any opinions on these spring compressors?? I don't want something that is gonna take a powerlifter to operate or be insufficient for certain applications. Should i go with a different style compressors or any input as to what a good choice would be is appreciated.
