I had a '76 c-10 with an almost stock 350/350, quadrajet, 3.07gears, 31x10.50 A/T tires 2 wheel drive that saw a lot of balls out off road. On the street I was always hot rodding it. I was in high school. I'd race anybody just for the fun of racing. I still do in my bird. I got about 8 mpg regularly. But that was 10 years ago when the gas prices were still under a buck. It all depends on how you drive it. If you want good gas milage, put a block under the gas pedal. Or a 2 barrel manifold.

tresi The taller tire has the same effect as running less gear. Taller tires, less gear, overdrives are slow the engine down at the same road speed.

70chevy I have twenties with 275/45/20 Eagle GT II tires. Does the taller wheel/tire height help or hurt me?

Don't know how tall your tires are but I'll guess with stock jets in the carb you'll get about 11-12mpg. With some yuning work on that carb you might get 13-14. I'm assuming it's 2 wheel drive. If you won't part with your 3.73 gears or swap to a 700R4 you might want to get a set of tractor tires if you were hoping to hit 16mpg.

It is a 350 bored over .030 and has 882 heads with 282 crane cam. I know get rid of that cam...What should i go to? I have a turbo 350 trans with a 3.73 gears and the gears are non-negotable. 600 cfm edelbrock carb dual flowmasters (not sure what series) I have the cheapo spark plugs on it right now but only until i get it running. It has never been cranked since it was rebuilt. I just put oil in it for the first time ever. Would anyone care to venture a guess as to what i might get mileage wise right now no mods?

DoubleVision First off, add a K&N air filter, then tune it up with the best pieces you can afford, use spiral core spark plug wires and not the cheapy part store solid core type, take your time and route them correctly. add a lower restriction muffler, fill the rear diff with royal purple synthetic lube, this will cut rolling resistance. check tire air pressure regularly, connect a vacuum gauge and drive where the gauge stays at it`s highest. if a tail gate is in use, keep it open or use a air net. go over the spark timing with a fine tooth comb, if your still running points, dump them for a HEI. There are more mods you can do, but it gets more costly and involves more work, these basic mods will help power as well as mileage.
