Robbie I had 40 series flow masters on my 350sb,and i have a 560 lift cam and they sounded ok, but didnt have that muscle car sound i was looking for,so i went with the purple hornets from jegs, and cruising it sounds so good, but the way it sounds when i stomp it is even better. Robbie

coldknock 3" Dynomax Race Magnums. They don't muffle much.

zipfactor I have summit racing mufflers on my 350 sbc, they sound nice and deep, and when you get on it has a nice roar. And at 15 bucks a piece you cant beat 'em

HARVICKx29 hey, to answer your questionon muffler choice.... i love my flowmaster 40's, everyone has them but hell they sound good. The downside is the interior resonance.... if you put dynamat or something similiar on the floor it won't bother you. The magnaflows are supposed to have a lot less resonance, supposed to flow better then the flow 40's but they are a little quieter. Now, flowmaster has the new super 40's. I'd look into those. Almost everyone complains that flows create a lot of resonance. They came out with the delta flow which is supposed to aid in that department. The new super 40's have the delta flow tech. in them and they are supposed to sound real nice. go to www.flowmastermufflers.com check them out. If you do decide to buy them... check out ebay first. you can get a great price on a pair then just bring them to the muffler shop. Good luck. 65chevymike, i was rereading my post and yours and i don't want you to think i was calling you a liar or anything. Just wanted to give my experience with flow 40's on my sbc. And what you said about keeping your ears open at shows.... ha ha , i do that same thing, i can never have the sound that i like. so i get to shows early so i can listen to the cars drive in then go ask what they have. later

65chevymike i wasn't aware that there were two style 40's.although the ones i have on the car are about 4-5 years old.i looked for some type of i.d. on them but all they say are flowmaster and a bunch of patent information.

Super Chevy 65chevymike, maybe you have the deltaflow version? the original flows are pretty loud.

HARVICKx29 hmmmm.. you have a big block with the flow 40's......i have a 350 with the flowmaster original 40's. i can't even go through a drive thru. i have to shut the car off to place my order. the original 40's are great sounding mufflers. i have 2.5" pipe dumped at the axle. the flowmasters create a whole lot of interior resonance. check out www.exhaustsoundclips.com.

65chevymike i have the flowmaster 40's on my ride.2 1/2 piped all the way out the back.you really have to get on it to get good sound of it.cruisin down the highway and sitting in town at a light, you would never guess that i'm running a big block.i can pretty much talk like normal and be heard.
this isn't good enough for me,i want it loud loud loud.i want people to hear my big block when i pull up to someone.
i don't want to take the performance hit i hear you take with glasspacks either.
i'm just going to do a few shows and meets this year and keep my ears open for a few great sounding cars and get some info from the source.mufflers sure aint a cheap investment.

Super Chevy Flowmaster 40-series Origional Flow 2 chamber mufflers, cant beat em for the awesome sound they produce. what have you done to the engine, you may want to consider 3" pipes. it will increase the throaty sound also.

79 camaro 454 if you want throaty and loud i always reccomend glasspacks smithys are always a winner ..but emmisions will go sky high.

1941 studebaker
mufflers????

I need help. I am looking for a muffler that sounds pretty throaty, but super loud? I am building a 1941 studebaker champion into a hotrod. I have almost a rolling chassis, but need some help witha a choose of mufflers. Most people tell me to buy flowmaster , but i heard dynomax is good too? I have a 396ci engine and probably will want 2 and half inch pipes? Can anybody that has built a hot rod from the ground up help me? I just want my car to sound like a muscle car without having to put up the windows while driving the thing!!!
