TurboS10,cool glad to hear its gonna work well.I was kinna concerned being as I was gonna hack huggers which are suposed to be less performancy than long tubes.I was wondering if I was gonna kill all performance by cutting them up.
I'm a cheap@ss too,I hear ya.
blown volvo, thats one bad *** car.
I may stick a tunnel ram on mine eventually just for the looks alone as my motor sits leval with the fenders.I'm thinkin a big ol honkin tunnel ram will draw some attention.Either that or three dueces.Gotta have some kinna cool induction,my Edelbrock performer seems to be lacking just a lil uniqueness.

hi monty there a guy with a pv in the uk.running sbc blown he has cut the innner archies out and run new frame rails .ive done the same on the 164 .pv is now got front struts i will try and find some pics for you ..
here' a pic off mine 2" pri 4"col running into 2"1/2 pipe to supertrapps

Your header plan should work fine. I did something very similiar with my turbo headers. I hacked up a set of malibu headers and welded them back together the way I needed them. I am a complete cheapa$$.....more time than money.

jimfulco,I've been trying to find that car on the site to show someone.I couldn't seem to find it last time I looked.Thats a beutiful car.I actually contacted that guy to see if he had any parts.
My car looks just like that.......well...cept mine is less red and more grey primer and the nose is less grey primer and more rust metal and mine has less glass in it and no radiator and no exhuast and millions of parts in boxs...............Oh god!!!I'm never gonna get the friggin thing done!

Here's a pic of one with a Buick V6, just so everyone can see what kind of space issues you're dealing with: http://www.volvoadventures.com/444V6spec.html
Have you looked at Sanderson headers? They have some really compact block-huggers & their catalog has measurements.

i'm gonna answer that with a ''Hell no it won't matter, in fact, i think it'll make it breath better...... those headers were originally constructed to be as efficient as possible in the constrictions of the engine compartment they were designed for. any time you can change something to improve the flow, your doing yourself a favor.'' now someone come tell why i'm wrong.....
Do it Monte.
maybe side pipes?
or into drag borla type muffs right out the front fender well?

Thanx larry, sorry no way to post photos,I trioed when I bought it and couldn't get no one to do it.
Any other guessers??? zHeres another way to phrase it.If all I'm doing is turning the angle,if its still a smooth bend and welded nice(either butt welded or with a sleeve tube welded over the cut .Will the fact that the pipe has been cut effect performance???And will the fact that the collector exits out the side instead of down effect performance??
The plan is to make them exit through the fenderwell with the collector just sticking into the wheel well then run the exhuast from there down inside the outter fender and under the car.

|crazy larry||hell, i'd think it'd perform better with some kind of header. better than a stock manifold anytime.... as to how it would work with the fabbing your talking about???? no clue, still haven't seen the engine bay of the volvo yet..... whar's the fotoes? what about running the header exits out the fender wells..???.......|

If I cut the first bend of a set of block huggers in the center of the bend and flip flop the angle,I mean turn the flage upside down on the head so that the pipes turn upward instead of down, then weld the rest of the headers back on just going the opposite direct so that the headers exit out the side,do ya think they will still flow as good as a unmodded set of huggers??
If not do ya think they will still beat those manifolds. They are a set of cast manifolds with a 2 1/4" bung welded on the side and the normal exits plated off.Ones a ramshorn the others a log type.
For those that don't remember me I'm finishing building a SBC powered 1958 Volvo PV444.

What do you guys think of this.I need to make som kind of fenderwell headers for my Volvo hotrod.I mentioned this back 6mo ago when I was plotting the car out. There is absolutly no room for headers I had to dimple the frame to get the spark plugs in if thats any indication of space.
Anyway the car came with homemade side exit cast manifolds but I want to fab up some headers for a lil better performance.I definitaly do not have the funds to have a set made as much as I'd like to.
Anyway I'm think of getting a set of block huggers and cutting them at the first bend and flipping them upside down.If I cut the tubes like 1' from the head flange on an angle and weld the tubes back on,the headers should exit the head, come slightly up and exit out the side.I have a freind thats a good welder who could do a real nice stitch.
Waadaaya think??Performance wise how would these perform against a regular block hugger or cast manifold.
