JohnBoy355 Lol, the Chevy High Performance article is what go me worrying in the first place Well, it pulls 23" of vac at idle (16 degrees intial timing helps to make that big #), I've wound it to 5,500 and no mis-fires or anything else odd. The plug all look great too, nice and tan. Just trying to get some reassurance, I'm sure you know what its like when you're worried that something might be wrong. I think they were from a '99 pickup. I dinked around at the machine shop while I had my engine being done up. I remember the original seals were these ungodly big metal things. You had to pry them off the guide with a screw driver. Sort of like a big metal cap with rubber inside.

Maverick Get this months Chevy High Performance Mag. They have a article on it this month and explains all this also what can be done to get more lift and the limits on the differant castings. good luck

12-04-2002 06:45 PM your 462 is about the limit. it just gets down to the individual head, some will take more than others, but don't try to put in the 480 it will crush the seals on most of them,

Stock Vortec Lift Limit?

Everybody's got me worried about my Vortec's now . The heads were off of a warrantied motor from a local dealer. I think they had 10,000 miles on them (piston crapped out). They are the 906 version. All that was done was a valve job and new seals. The seals were from the 69-80 Fel-Pro Gasket kit. The rocker arms are stock. The cam is a comp 4x4 extreme with 210/218 .447"/.462" lift. Does anyone know for sure what stock heads will tolerate. So far I've heard .400", .420", .460", .475", and .480" Quite a little room between estimates. I worry too much, lol.
