Dupont has (or had) a system that used Acrylic enamel clear over lacquer called 502. I've used it and never had any problems.
If you don't make mistakes. your not doing anything.

Thanks for the response Barry. One last question for you experts. If I use a Lacquer paint does anyone recommend putting a clear on top or does it not make any difference. What has the best shine properties. I know that BC/CC is the best for shine and durability. Any thoughts thanks!

than clear can be applied anytime.
If the lacquer is a sold color you can sand with 600 before clearing but not metallics.
Its been a long time but if you have not bought the clear yet
PPG High performance was one of the best.
RM (Basf) had a good one -can't remember the name.
Dupont's clear buffed like cement.
The nice thing about lacquer you could do about anything you wanted with the big exception of going to a faster thinner on the next coat. Some people buffed the last coat of color than shot the clear on custom work.
Most of us painters from back than are dead from liver failure because of the lead content.

Willy can you tell me how long I can wait to put the lacquer clearcoat on top of the lacquer topcoat. I heard that it can be put on at anytime. Another question is can the tocpoat be wetsanded prior to the clearcoat or does the last coat of topcoat have to be unsanded. Thanks

Color sanding and polishing was invented on lacquer paint. That is how you get a great lacquer finish. If the lacquer is well cured it should take a urethane clear coat just fine, just sand it w/ 400 before the clear. From your question it sounds like you have a fresh lacquer job. Why did you do lacquer instead of BC/CC in the first place? [/QUOTE]

|viperACR||I went with a lacquer paint because I painted my bumper with a spray can paint and i cannot find a casecoate clearcoat very easily in a spray can. The paint came out ok. If I do a good job of wet sanding it might come out better than the factory paont which has orange peel on it. i figured i could not do any worse with orange peel than the factory did. The factory paint shines well but it has orange peel|

Clearing should be done with a lacquer clear.
Urethane clear will go over the lacquer but we know two things about putting urethane clear over lacquer:
1) Its going to come off.
2) We just can't say when, could be first day in sun or 10 years from now or anytime in between but it is going to peel.
