pcv/ intake question

Hey fellas

This is the first question I've got to ask on this page.

I'm going to rebuild a 350 SBC for a streetrod project. I want to run finned valve covers with no holes (breather & pcv). I would like to use an Edelbrock Performer because there is a flat spot for an oil fill tube in the front.

From the things I have read about the pcv I understand that I will ahead of the game to have one.

My Question is this: If I use a breather on the oil fill tube and mount the coil on the fire wall would it be possible /practicle to smooth out the mounting holes were the coil attaches to the intake and tap it for a pcv valve. If so how would a go about making a baffle so the pvc wouldn't suck oil from the lifter valley.

Sorry about the long post, I just want to get it right the first time.

thanks in advance. any help is appriciated

PCV

Doc Here:pimp:

Not Sure what your trying to do here...

The older (mid & late 1950's) 265's , 283's and 327's that had a center / front manifold oil filler tube, had a threaded hole, in the side of it which you could install a vacuum hose fitting to a PCV valve to intake / Carb fitting. The PCV was actually in-line.

If memory serves, I believe they had a second one for Breather / overboard discharge (hold your ears EPA...) line ...

So if that's what you want to do... Sure , It's been done for years...You Could probably get that whole assembly From a Boneyard, OPG , or Maybe Even a local Parts store as a stock 265/283 oil fill pipe for a , Oh say, 57~59 Bel Aire or Impala....

However, and it's just my opinion, The PCV would be more effective Through a Valve cover as opposed to the Valley type OIL FILLER. If having no attachments to the Covers isn't a "Set in stone" pre~requisite.

Where ever you decide to mount it , you'll be glad you did, at the VERY, VERY least, it will keep your engine Cleaner...

thanks doc

Thanks for the info Doc!

Guess I should have been more clear about what I wanted. What I am going for is an engine that looks like what I rod would have had in the late 50s/ early 60s. At the same time I want to retain a clean. dependable engine.

I've read about 283s and 327s that had a pcv replacing the road draft tube. Guess that would be easier but I've already got the 350 so....

again thanks for the input!

I would run it the other way.

You can find those oil filler tubes with the pcv hole at Corvette sites like Paragon, Corvette Central, etc.

With the pcv in the filler tube, run a vacuum line to the carb. Some Holleys have a port on the side especially for this.
Then tap your intake, and run a vacuum line from your air cleaner to the intake.

You'll be drawing air into the lifter valley from the air cleaner and out through the pcv to the carb.

I essentially did this, but I had the back of the block tapped back by the distributor instead of tapping the intake.

It works since you're not sucking air from the lifter valley in the back.
