well said, if you want some real performance, don't spend another day messing with that 305! Gears are your best bet for some more boot in the butt.

The original 305 that came in that car was rated at about 165hp. The mods you speak of may get you to 195-200 hp. It takes a lot more than the mods you mentioned to get a 305 to 300hp.
That's why so many people use the 350. It's a much better base engine. The small valve heads and small bore of the 305 doesn't lend itself to small mods/big hp.

|chevelle_502||I wouldnt look for anything over 300 hp. Your only real power upgrades are the intake, carb, and cam so 300 is pretty close I feel.|

how well does it work
I have an '83 trans am with a 305 in it. i just put on a weiand x-celerator intake manifold, a 600 cfm holley that had work done to it, and a vacume advance distibutor. There is a cam in it, something better than stock from what i hear from the previous owner(3rd cousin owned it befor me, some one near him that he knows owned it befor him). Eveything else is stock except basic tune-up things(cap & rotor spark plugs/wires)
What im asking is how good of a combo is this, how much horsepower should it be
