Hello I am new here an would just like to say this is a great site
(vary cool) I do have somewhat of a problem however, and would like to know if anyone here can help. I just put a motor togather for my S-10 P/u it is a 9.7 to 1 .030 over 350, it went togather vary nicely, however I used a set of eagle after market connecting rods. and I have about .080 side clearence!
has anyone ever seen this before? just to be sure I bolted up a set of stock rods to one of the rod journals, and the clearence was around .016 my concern is will this cause a problem if I run this motor w/ this kind of side clearence, and if so what kind of problem.
Thanks

I would definately talk to whoever you bought the rods from to see what the spec is on those rods. .08 will cause you oil control problems due to excessive oil slinging on the cylinder walls......and that is if it will hold any oil pressure. There was a thread a while back about aftermarket rod side clearances being higher, but .08 is out of the ball park. Let us know what you find.

Something is funny here. Eagle rods are supposed to measure .940" big end width (each). Check yours, maybe someone previously has "worked" on them.

Stock clearances are spec'd at .010"-.020". I've seen them as tight as .004".

Manley tells me that .035" with their rods is not uncommon and poses no problems.

rod problem solved/ Thanks!!!

Hi guys, well I asked around to some of the motor heads here in my local area, and they told me the same thing,"that this kind of clearence will not be a good thing, anyhow I took my shortblock back apart, and reassembeled it with a set of manley rods, the side clearence is now around .008, and I am happy, I called eagle and they said that those rods are most certanly defactive and I sent them back, Thanks so much for all your help you guys are a great sounding board I like haveing other hot rodders to bounce my questions and problems off of, have fun and stay safe until next time.
