Just a little update.
I went out to my car at lunch and looked carefully at the bushings I bought today.
they are energy suspension for '73-79 Ford truck leaf springs. The nice thing about these is that they are quite long ~2.75" which gives lots of room to adjust the width of my trailing arm end, if needed.
The tubing they will be inserted into is 1.5" DOM with a 3/16" wall. The tubing ID is 1-5/8. Perfect for the bushings.
The bushings fit into the tubing well without the inner sleeve. With the inner sleeve inserted the bushings are a *perfect* fit for the tubing. Very tight.
What I'm doing is drilling a 1-1/5" hole in a piece of 2x2 1/4" wall square tubing. I'lll inset a piece of round tubing into the hole and weld it to the Square tubing. The bushings are inserted in the round tubing. Over all, my lower trailing arms have cost a grand total of $55 including a 1-1/2" hole saw.
A little plug for suicidedoors.com: I payed $40 for a set of 8 bushings and 4 sleeves (enough to do 4 trailing arm ends). The D.O.M. tubing cost me about $6 for the amount I'm going to need. Suicidedoors sells the bushings w/ the tubing pre-cut for $9/end. A bit cheaper than it is costing me to make them myself... However, I had to get a different size sleeve than suicidedoors offers. Of course, I have the satisfaction of saying that I built my own trailing arms... not sure what that's worth.

I'm slowly getting the trailing arms together.
The thing that has been a little difficult with this is that I'm limited to bushings with a 5/8" sleeve because the rear shock mounts are built into the trailing arm bolt, which is 5/8" . If I wasn't limited by this, I would have just ordered the bushings & ends from suicidedoors.com.
After some trial and error with generic leaf-spring bushings, I went back to the spring shop where I purchased the bushings and got some "energy suspension" polyurathane bushings.
The new bushings are for a '73-7? Ford.
I'm using 1.5" OD (1.25" ID) D.O.M. Tubing and pushing the bushing into the tubing.
Here's my latest concern....
The new bushings are not the tightest fit. Not loose, but not a tough press fit. However, when I push in the inner sleeve, the bushings really tighten up on the tubing. For those of you that have done this before, does this sound like it will work?

|WICKEDFAB||if you buy some leaf spring bushings for a 90 wrangler they will work with 1.25 id tubing and the others 1.5 id tubing...so 1.5 120 wall and 1.75 120 wall....if ya need small chunks of tubing i can hook ya up....i can also get ya the bushings...|

Where to buy Suspension Bushings for Custom Suspension?
Now that I've decided to build my own trailing arms for my car,
I'm looking for a good local joint that can sell me bushings.
I'd prefer not to use the hard to work with press in kind.
I guess what I'm wondering is if anyone has built their own trailing arms and what did they use as the source of their bushings?
