There are a couple differences between the W/C and non-W/C.
1. Mainshaft has a bearingless design for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
2. Countershaft uses flat roller bearings
3. Uses 1 piece brass blocker rings throughout
1. Mainshaft uses bearings for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
2. Countershaft uses tapered roller bearings
3. Uses 3 piece blocker rings on 1st and 2nd, and fiber type
rings on 3rd and 4th for longer life
A regular rebuild kit for a W/C won't work on your non-W/C.
As far as converting your non-W/C to a W/C by changing all of the gears, bearings, and mainshaft from an upgrade kit such as the link I posted, I couldn't say for sure. I believe the cases are slightly different for the 2 types of countershaft bearings.

The 26 spline shafts are the stronger of the two. However, even the world class t-5's had issues with standing up to the 305's found in v8 camaro's. The only difference in the world class and regular T-5's is in the shifter feel. One will not handle more power than the other. They both have limits around 250ft/lbs. They don't do well for any sort of race application, but they are pretty easy to find and aren't too bad for motoring around on the street if you want to get decent mileage.
I don't have any information on performance rebuilds of any kind, but as common as that transmission is I doubt you'll have too much trouble finding any upgraded bearings and what not.

borg warner t5
i have a borg warner t-5 from a v8 83 camaro that has a 10 spline input shaft, can anybody tell me if thats the strongest or if the 26 is stronger? would a world class rebuild kit work on a non-world class? and would anybody know if a performance rebuild kit would boost its power handling?
