Hey guys,
Does anyone else use a baby monitor as a low cost garage security system? Before i got the intercoms between the garage and the kitchen, i used to use a baby monitor as a means of hearing what was going on in the garage in the middle of the night. These can be had at garage sales for a couple of bucks, they pick up the slightest sounds (had a rake fall over one night and it sounded like a bulldozer was in there). I put a piece of black electrical tape over the little red light, so the boogie man doesn't know he's being listened in on and gives me time to load the .357. Haven't had a break in yet, but i sleep a little easier knowing if someone does try it, i'll be there.
I know it's stupid, but my house and garage are never locked, even when nobody is home. Most of the time the keys are in the ignition of all our vehicles. Lived there almost 25 years and never had a problem....' course when I drove a fully marked State Patrol squad it was parked there and that probably helped.

Bigbird.... Must be nice. When I had a marked police cruiser parked at my house, I just had more problems. Had my house and cars egged, windows broken out of the cruiser, and a favorite was a line of empty beer cans on the light bar.
I'v been using one for about two years now and it works great. Only had one problem; It woke me up one morning with the sound of a baby crieing???? The wife and I looked at each other with the "what the F*** look" Turns out a couple with a baby just moved in next door and we were on the same channel. Those things have some range, that house has to be 100 yards away. Went to channel B and all's well again. I thought about switching to their channel around 5 am and firing up the chain saw!!!! " Baby with a chain saw"

That is a prime reason for me keeping my garage the way I do. Anyone goes in there when they shouldn't are taking their life in their own hands. I know how the mine field is set-up, so I know how to get thru there. LOL
