357ford Appreciate the pic....yeah I have seen one some time ago.


Seems the fella has other people telling him that the rear main will leak, using the one piece crank in the two piece block. Needless to say, he's in no hurry to throw it together just to have it leak.

brainsboy I could be wrong since I dont mess with anything 80's and newer but I thought all 351w were 28oz balance. None the less if I am wrong and yours is 50oz it doesnt matter it will still work. As far as the slinger it shouldnt be a problem, most shops will grind them off because they dont fit well in the older blocks. For the rear seal, I personaly feel the material used is more important then 1 or 2 piece. If you goto your local auto store and buy some generic seal you get what you pay for. Buy a good quality seal and you shouldnt have a problem.

357ford Well at this point he would like to use the 50 oz one piece crank in the 69 block. Everyone says its a direct fit no problem, keep the damper and flywheel imbalance the same, makes sense.


NOw another question has arose...he wants to know whats the deal with the oil slinger and will there be a problem as he says the one piece crank doesn't have this, he is also concerned that there will be excess oil leakage through the two piece main using the one piece crank, as it doesn't have the lip pn the one piece crank. Any thoughts appreciated

brainsboy One of the problems you will run into is with newer crankshafts, and aftermarket cranks is whats called an oil slinger. This is exactly what it sounds like, just a ring on the crank close to where the seal go's, I would guess about .100" wide and sticks out like the rings of saturn. These usually need to be machined down to fit properly in the older blocks. You need to pay close attention to this so your not making metal shavings. Its hard to see this too, most people will notice the crank freezes up when they torque all the mains and cant figuer out why. Other then that the internals will fit, and your already aware of deck height so be sure to mill your block for proper quench. As far as the seals good idea , I have never heard of it being done, but anything is possible.

need some input on ford one piece to two piece seal conversion

I need to know three things if possible.


First, what machine work is required to prep a two piece block (69) to accept the one piece crank and seal?


Second, what machine work is required to stick a two piece seal crank in a one piece block.


Third, any reason why the rods and pistons won't work 90 internals to a 69 block, I know the 351w used a different deck height but unsure if the 302 changed.




Would like a quick reply if possible, its for a fella looking to put a 302 engine together and he has encountered many possibilites to get it there.
