87 monte ss Ive watched that show Trauma, Life in the ER, too many times not to wear mine. You see too many people get really messed up in low speed crashes because they didnt wear a belt

tbirdscott Thats sad to hear, hope the kid pulls through.

Brother of a friend Was in an 04 f250 doing about 100km/h when a car pulled out of a logging road onto the highway, he t-boned them and was thrown out the drivers window of the truck despite wearing a seatbelt and landed in the ditch. The truck flew through the air hitting a telephone pole about 7-10' above the ground and ripped into two pieces. Amazingly he was able to walk away without any broken bones or serious injuries, though I believe one or two people in the car (uninsured with an underage driver) were killed instantly

ChevelleSS_LS6 May God bless their family and loved ones.

How can tensing up kill ya? I've heard people sirvive because they're sleeping, but how and why? It's ironic.

Thats true, and it's usually why the drunk driver lives through the accident.

87442lover Only story I have like that is an old co-worker (a VERY annoying one at that) that fell asleep in the back of a truck with the ext. cab. He fell asleep with no seatbelt on in the cab section. Supposedly his friend fell asleep or wasnt paying attention when he hit head on. Dont remember much detail about the whole thing, but I do remember he said the only reason he survived was because he was asleep at the time and basicly because his body did'nt tense up. I dont know if the driver survived.

Anyway enough of this sad stuff, read the story once and that was enough for me. But one thing you have to remember is a famous bumper sticker * Happens. It may be a slight fender bender, or it may involve something alot worse, but sometimes you jsut can't do anything about it.

EDIT: Oh yeah, only time I REALLY got smashed up was in a mercury mystique doing about 45 mph down 29 when a young (16) year old girl pulled out in front of me, I dont remember the impact, just opening my eyes to a bunch of smoke and a crushed in dash. Supposedly I was up and wondering around aimlessly after that. I got the pics somewhere. Ripped her red sunfire apart, tore the right wheel off, completely caved in my mercury.

Ghetto Jet A friend of the family rolled her F150, crushed the roof down pretty far. She lived because she wasn't wearing a seat belt. She claims the cop wrote her a ticket for not wearing one after the accident.

coldknock Yeah, it works both ways as well. Seat belts save more lives than they take. They do kill.

I watched a girl die in a Corvette because the seat belt held her in place when the car got t-boned by an old lady in a LTD. The driver of the Vette got squeezed out like big zit and lived, she didn't.

That was an exception I suppose.

My brothers face got bashed in and he almost died because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt and I got my noggin rattled once in a wreck because I didn't have one on.

I will never forget that girl in the Vette though. That was the most horrible thing I've ever seen. That memory makes it really hard for me to put it on, but I do anyway.

aaaa... dont know what to say for that story, or if there is anything to be said. Just wear a seatbelt.

Ghetto Jet Thats sad, all seven people were ejected. I'll never understand why people won't wear a seat belt. A friend of mine died last August after going through a turn to fast. He wasn't wearing a seat belt, his Tacoma hit a tree sending him partially through the windshield as the truck rolled over on top of him. He lived long enough to just make it to the hospital, but that was it. The report said if he had been wearing a seat belt he would have lived. Guy was only 18.

KristensRanchero How horrifically sad. Not much one can say. You hear something like this and it just drives home how in a heartbeat it can be over. Makes you hug your own kids a little tighter.

Condolences to the family and thoughts for Skylar that he pulls through this okay.

Wear Your Seatbelts!!!

I am sorry to inform you guys that one of my former employees and his girlfriend's lives were ended too soon.

Dustin was a young kid (19), he worked for me for a couple of months last year. His first child was born while he worked for me.

Dustin, and his live in girl friend Amber were riding in a Dodge minivan with Amber's sister and family (7 people in all, including Skylar- 11 months and another 2 year old girl.) Not one person was buckled up and the kids were not in car seats.

Dustin, Amber and Amber's niece perished in the wreck. Skylar is now without parents and he is in critical condition at Wesley hospital in Wichita, KS.

Amber's mom was in my shop this morning giving me funeral details. She teared up so much I didn't know what to do or tell her.

Is the story.

The van was not torn up that badly, I'll venture to say that I think there might have been no fatalities if seat belts and car seats had been used. Skylar's first birthday is this Saturday.

Buckle Up
