haha i noticed the valve thing right away
anyways, about av gas, av gas comes in many octanes the most popular are 80 and 100 LL (low lead) i beleave that the the new 80 octane av gas has no lead but used to contain .5 mill/liter. 100 LL contains 2.0 mill./liter
av gas is much more stable than auto gas, it can be stored for longer periods and has a vaper presure of 5-7. however the fuel should be agitated regularly. the fuel weighs 6 pounds per gallon and has 20,000 BTU's a gal.
as for jet fuel, its kinda like kerosine..
has a vaper presure of 2-3 psi, its heavyer than av gas (more dence). it has a higher heat value and contains some oil for lubrication. however it tends to hold water so micro organisums can grow in it. oh and it has no octane rating they use designation numbers. anyways while the topic was brought up i figured some of you guys would be interested just how much lead is in the "low lead" i think that the old leaded auto gas was 1.0 mill/liter... the fuel used in some old war planes had up to 6.0 mill/liter of tetraethel lead..

I hope you guys figured out which pistons go in which bores either that or you must have one odd looking set of headers. You must have some bent valves as well judging by the marks on the pistons.

Looks to me ya have only i cooked cylinder, that being the case you have water jacket problems. the piston beside it looks ok,
Is that the only cylinder that got that hot,,???

Yes, you would want to richen the main fuel circuit jets to prevent detonation. Detonation is usually not much of an issue on NA engines as long as CR and timing are right on, but a lean condition will certainly help the detonation process. By adding more fuel to the combustion process you move lower than stoich so there is some unburned fuel. This fuel cools and slows the combustion process to insure a uniform flame travel. When the AFR is lean the combustion heat is greater. This can cause hot spots and uncontrolled, sporatic combustion......or detonation.
BTW, AV can be run in an engine with no issues. Most plane engines are typical turbocharged gasoline engines.

i just wasted some money. ok i had like little more then empty tank and got 93 octane which brought me to little more then 3/4ths. then i drove it to 1/2 tank and got gas again and noticed it was the same price for 87 as it was for 93 where i usually go, so i was *** and got 87 now i have little less then full.
my point is, is it bad to mix different octane gas?
these gas prices are outragous. one place $2.15 a gal for 93 octane, then another place $2.33 for 92 octane gas. ***!!!

|Novaman78||Lets say you run chap 87 octane gas and run a tank of the good 93 octane gas once in a while (every couple tanks) would it clean out your engine or keep it running better?|

|RCastle||I used it for a full winter,did not kill me.I am not doubting you since I have no proof it wont.I will have a natural gas furnace in my garage when I get a chance to build it.Man.,now that you mention it I am looking for some missing brain cells from that winter.One of the guys I worked with told me the AV Gas trick so being the guy I am,What the heck.I did not research into it but would not use a kerosene heater again anyway.The fumes from that alone bother my eyes.|

|Siggy_Freud||I think you can safely own the arguement between you and your friend. As was said before there isn't really much potential long term harm in it running rich compared to a lean setup. Its the same reason you richen up and engine to run nitrous. Lean situation cause heat which can cause all sorts of trouble.|

Well, the engine is already fixed, and I thought that cylinder just went lean... My buddy thinks that cylinder got too rich.... I'm just trying to get some opinions to win my argument.. lol.. BTW the car that engine is in went 10.41 @ 132.37 mph on Sunday at 5500 DA!!! lol... Here's a vid...

Where did the AV subject come from anyways?
MEAN_SBC, it almost looks to me like you are having a problem with fuel distribution. The cylinder next to it looks ok...maybe a vacuum leak? Cracked head, blown head gasket, intake gasket, cracked intake?
