thanks for the links roys63, (i love links) but the first one isnt working. the last one however has some pricey BB chevy distributer relocaters and lots of other great stuff for me to drool on. thanks again!

|USA1||Why not start with an LT1? The opti-spark is already there and I think that there are kits available to switch to a standard ignition.|

|Old School Nut||yeah thats always an option, but old speed parts are just plain cool! the one i am thinking of had the distributer sitting almost upright, kinda canted to the right (engines right) if my memory serves me. thanks for your leads lilsmoke|

humm, well its not a matter of having it in front, its a matter of space, see laugh if you want, but i am trying to design an engine for running on alcohol and gasoline, and since i am a mechanical freak (whats sexier than electro mechanicals, hydraulic lines, cables, belts and levers???) i want to have 2 distributors for the optimal timing curve for each fuel and be able to switch from one to another while i drive. of course i still have the problem with wiring the high tension leads, but it will come to me. if any of you have a better idea (a mechanical one) i am all ears. BTW i still am interested in more makers of the front drive distributer covers. (i can use it to drive something else)
humm and about headaches, cost, and parts availability, thats not really an issue, their are no headaches when your having fun. and i am not playing with mechanical things cuz they are easy or "normal".... so if it costs more initially so be it, could actually end up not costing much when compared to what i get out of it, i have friends that are machinists, drag racers, circle track racers, shop owners, and have the support of my family, and i have access to aircraft parts as i am going to school to be an aircraft mechanic (a little more than a semester be4 i hold my ticket hopefully). now that you all know where i am coming from maybe this will help :-)

Why do you want the dizzy up front all the extra headacjes and cost and pars availability would say not to do it if you want a chevy with the ziddy up front get a v6 it would even be cheaper.

They came out with these many years ago, 60s, I think. You still need a gear on the cam at the back to drive the oil pump. I think that there was a dummy distributer shaft for this.
The theory was that the cam driven at the front would flex and the timing would be out at the rear where the distributer was being driven. I quess that advancing the timing a bit to make up for this wasn't simple enough.
Needless to say, they didn't take off......................
