RippinRon Sorry I forgot about the part number anyways its 2466 they are $156 from summit racing. As far as the ac goes the monte brackets will be the same and I think if your buick came with a 3.8 originally that a small block chevy will bolt to those motor mounts, but don't quote me on it. I havn't took any pics of under the hood yet but I have some exterior pics on my website @ http://ca.geocities.com/jstephens12@rogers.com
I will take some soon so check back on my site. I had no problems with the headers fitting. I installed them with the engine in the car from the top quite easily. Check out how I had my exhaust dont. G-body crossmembers only have a hump on the right side so I used a magnaflow 2.5" dual in/out muffler. This mufller is basically a x-pipe with baffling.

Thanks for the reply rippin ron . I was wondering if you would happen to have a part number for those headers ? I just find it so odd I bought headers from dynomax specificaly for that application and I could not believe they didn't work ,go figure . Anway how well do the hooker headers fit on the drivers side ? I am just asking because I had to drop my steering shaft to put the drivers side header on but it did fit . I don't want to seem bothersome but I have some more questions. I am wanting to run air conditioning in my car and I am currently puzzeled about that as well . Well basically I was wondering what kind of brackets do I need ? I went to a auto salvage yard and robbed all of the brackets off of a monte carlo, as I was told you need the brackets and motor mounts because they sit lower . If by chance you have any more info that will help I would appreciate it . Hopefully you will be able to post some pics that should deffinately help out . If I can get a visual look at something I can understand it much more . Thanks for the reply.

RippinRon I have a 86 cutlass supreme with a 350 chevy in it. I'm using hooker comp universal shorty headers. They fit great and have lots of room around them. Some of the bolts are pretty tough to fasten with the engine in the car. The rear most bolt on the right side is one of them especially if you have a.c. and tall valve covers. Your car may have originally had a computer controlled quadra-jet on which will account for some extra wiring. I'll take some pics of my engine bay and post them after I clean the car.

Hey Siggy just got your reply . On the starter I thought the same thing to, but for some reason the header will not clear if the starter is on . I know that might seem unusual but it just want clear . When I ordered the headers I specified the headers for a g-body app. but it is possible that it could have been the wrong headers in the box . Its kind of ironic but possible . Its funny I have heard of many people doing this type of conversion before I myself had never done it before and people has made it seem so easy, boy I wish it were that easy for me, as far as the wiring goes wiring is not my forte at all . How ever if it had a v6 in it most of the wires might possibly be fuel injection wiring. Of course I am not even remotely sure that is right. I looked earlier when I got home and I think have the alternator wires , starter wires and coil wires pin pointed but the other wires I could not even began to tell what they might be . I am knew to this sight but I would like to take the time to say it is awsome . I am glad there are people out there who are willing to offer up suggestion and any knowledge they may have about the subject . Thanks alot guys

Siggy_Freud If your dropping a new motor in Id just rip all the wiring out (except the 12v sources to wire up the coil and such) and run new wires from whatever guages you choose, to the sending units on the new engine.

The ministarter is much lighter and smaller than a regular one and in most cases solves the starter/header clearance issues.

I actually did not think about that . I guess before I take that step of taking my engine out I would like to ask this question , where your headers extremely close to the frame and starter ? I don't know if this matters much but I a running a high torque mini starter and I don't know if there is different dimensions as apposed to a stock starter . Also I like to say that I know what you mean on the tranny crossmember I had to do the same thing because I am running a tci street fighter 400 . Also I would like to ask what kind of gauges did you use ? As far as the wires go I only want to keep gauges and possibly anything for ac and heat. I got little ones that plan to ride in daddy's car . I greatly appreciate all the replies .

crazyhorse0686 I have an 85 Cutlass Supreme with a 68 Olds Rocket 350 with headers on it. I beleive I had to drop the engine in with the headers already in place on the car and then bolt them on when it was close. I know it was extremely tight, and I needed the help of some friends to hold them in place while I dropped it in. I used the original mounts from the 68 and had plenty of clearence for the hood. As far as the wiring I don't know what Your trying to keep but I replaced the idiot lights with gages and ripped out the computer. I then only needed a coulple wires for the sending units, coil, and starter. I don't know what your tring to bolt this to but I had to fabricate a new cross member to hold my tranny up (TH400) and have a new drive shaft made. Just some things to think about.

Siggy_Freud Most Hanyes and Chilton books feature fairly extensive wiring diagrams in the back. Id suggest using some colored pencils to color in the lines as you go along if you plan on chasing down wires.

Thanks for the reply guys . I think were my mistake on headers was the fact that I bought shorties instead of eqal length . My shorties I bought when I put them on I cannot put my starter on . So I think for the time being I will just find a pair of manifolds and put on . As for the wiring and everything goes I am still a little puzzled on that . Do you guys think maybe a buick regal auto guide would have a wiring harness diagram ?

Isn't the regal/GNX the same as a monte carlo or a cutlass supreme? Just wondering... also, isn't the late 70s early 80s malibu somewhat based on the '68-up nova? I think I heard that somewhere... dunno.

Hi everyone I am new to this site and basically I was wondering if anyone may have some useful info . Before I ask my question I would like to say I in general am a gm fan from buick to pontiac, and I know there are people who are mainly into only certain vehicles wether it only be buick or chevy and these people tend to get a little antsy about certain things so when I ask my question I hope it does not affend buick or chevy ethusiast, after all sometimes building a hot rod is all about working with what you have and also a budget . I built a 383 stroker motor when I was in college I spent a lot of time looking for a vehicle to put it in and just when I had givin up hope I aquired a 1986 buick regal limited body it didn't have an engine or anything . I myself think of the regals to be somewhat of a sporty car . I mean when it come to t-types an gn's who can argue those a some awsum cars . If I would have known that I was going to get a buick regal I would have loved to built a nice nail head or turbo charge a v6 but like I said I already had the stoker and thats what i am working with so basically I was wondering if anyone might be able to offer any info . I have never put a chevy into a buick or an olds . The main thing I am having problems with is the is headers and some of the wiring, mainly wires come from wiring harness, I did not take the engine out and do not what wires go where . I have found what I think to be my starter wires and my alternator wires but the rest of the wires are beyond me . I basically need to know what kind of headers I can use because I bought some dynomax headers specifically for that car app. but they did not work well let me refraise that, one side worked and the other side did not , passenger side would not work the starter and the frame would not let it so there you have it . They are not extreme problems but if someone could help it would be greatly appreciated. So hopefully know one gets offended . Sorry about righting a book .
