|daimon1054||I'll try and get some next time I see him. It was only a 2" lift so there's not much visual impact. He is going for the Pre-Runner look so next up is a body lift. We were going to do a larger suspension lift but they all need new rims and he did not have the money for that.|

|daimon1054||Well I got it done and as said getting the old out was no problem but getting the new spring was not possible without a compressor so I rented one from Auto Zone. All in all very easy project.|

Something to consider, the replacement springs should be much longer than the springs you are removing. Since this is a lift kit,
you will most likely need a spring compressor to aid in the install.
You may find that the upper a-arm will bottom on it's bump-stop preventing you from being able to connect both ball joints.

OK first LOL I am wondering who would not have the truck in the air first whak it with a hammer and let the parts fly. then just dang shame in todays world you have to say that.
I was going to do a full lift with a-arms and spindles but the rims he has will not work so am going to do only the springs and shocks. Still waiting for the parts. Thanks for the input.

what you do is... remove the lower ball joint from the spindle.
i usually leave the nut on anwack it with a hammer.
once the ball joint is loose... let me back up for a minute.
first support the truck on jack stands, and use the floor jack under the lower a- arm..anyway once the ball joint is loose release the floor jack and the spring will push down on the lower a-arm usually releasing it from the truck safely[you may have to push down on the lower a-arm a lttle bit to get it out completely]
i have done this several times and it works for me.i don't like to use spring compressors because they are more of a pain than they are worth. good luck

|Jzarczyn||you don't need a spring compressor. Chain the spring to the frame, and pry it out with a LONG prybar.|

I have pulled some that you could release all the tension by lowering the lower arm and some that even with the arm down the spring was still in tension. I have no idea where my compression tool is and I don't do this much any more so I am trying to be cheap. I know the danger if you can not release the tension so I was looking for someone who might have done it.
OH well if there is tension I'll just put the wife in front of it

I pulled the front springs on a '51 Ford many years ago without using a spring compressor. It worked fine.
I recently pulled the front springs on my son's '65 Chevy II and made a spring compressor to do that job.
Use a spring compressor! It will make the job much easier and definitely much safer!

i have never removed Front springs before but i would have to recommend a spring compressor because a friend of mine knows somone that removed a spring on his car and didnt use a compressor and the spring shot out and hit the nieghboors garage door and if the guy was in the way it would of killed him.
somone on here will say the right way to do it. but make sure you do it the right way because it is so dangerous.

S10 2X4 lift ???
My nephew just told me he ordered a lift kit for hit 2X4 S10 and that was going to be lucky enough to help put it on it has a-arms and springs on front.
So my question is do I need a spring compressor to remove the spring or will the spring release when I lower the a-arm?
