Daily driver?

Although my hands are full with my current projects I've had this one in my mind for many years. I've collected all the catalogs for researching parts and such and even priced it out once. But I've never commited to it and was wondering if anyone here has ever built such a ride.
Looking at a re-pro glass 32 three window. Bobbed fenders, no running boards, tube frame, with straight front axle. I was thinking of pulling the running gear from a Ford Ranger pick-up. All of it. 4 cylinder, 5 speed, straight rear axle. They're cheap and plentiful.
The goal here is to have a light weight economical car but fun to drive and different. Add ac and stereo and she'd be my commuter car to work.
Everyone is always stuffing V8's into these things for cruisers, but why not a cheap daily driver. The Ranger gets decent milage as is.

Whatcha think?
