firestone A dual pattern cam is better for a motor that has heads that dont flow exceptionally well on the exhaust side. It allows a little more lift and duration on the exhaust side to make up for the flow on the exhaust side of the heads. If you have a head that flows really well ( a ported an polished aftermarket head) the motor doesnt need the extra lift and duration, so a single pattern works better. I would consider the XE274H cam.

01-19-2005 03:14 PM That is a good hot street cam, that grind has been around for many years and works with engines like yours, not hard on valve train parts but needs a mild convertor. Has a decent idle for a fairly big cam. A dual pattern cam usually gives you a little more top end without effecting idle quality.

I would use the cam and if you feel you can use more, put 1.6 rockers on it. (if your valve train is set up for .500 lift).

i am building a 383chevy
but not reely sure what cam to use
this is the cam i have got
230 in 230 ex 480 lift in 480 lift ex

this is the motor
10:1 comp
fully ported 462 heads 1.94/1.5 (or ported l98 heads)
polished chambers
headers 2.5 inch dual syst
edelbrock rpm manifold
edel 750 cfm
underdrive pulleys
roller tips 1.5

or is a dual pattern better(why)
or whats the best cam for mee
