willowbilly3 I have a retired friend who is into those. He buys and sells maybe 2 or 3 a year and only top shelf models. He just sold a 78 or 79 with the original 350/4 speed. I don't even like Chevy's all that much but that was a sweet ride. I think he got around 11 grand for it.

ElCaminos are cool,I have an 85 SS,does not have the ChooChoo front clip which is fine with me. Needs to have some work done to it though. I drove it the last two summers, but it is about to get the body lifted this summer. Which should be fun, since the bad is not seperate like a truck is. Get my family to gather round and then say"Well since everyone is already here."

I think the Aussie's have the best name for them...... "Ute". I also like the term "Pickoupe".

M&M CUSTOM As it shares the same front clip as the Malibu I have found quite a few links to places selling parts.

I currently get catalogs from 4 sources and look online at 3 other places for parts.

You will have MUCH better luck than I, in finding what you need as the El camino shares parts with the Malibu coupe, and as I own a sedan I have been having a difficult time in finding weatherstripping, trim, door panels, and many other things.

I have actually parted out a few sedans in a couple junkyards for some of the "sedan only" hard to find parts.

Weimer I did find out that the 88's were actually the last 740-sumptin cars that were left over from '87....Probably a good thing that they killed it before it became some fwd, sheetmetal framed grocery getter with a 4cyl.

Thanks for the link...I will definately check it out and sign up.

Hippie Congratulations !!! Check here: http://elcaminocentral.com/ they have tons of info. Might as well sign up while you're there.

Beginning in '74 the SS was just a trim package but there are lots of goodies available for the 5th Gen El Camino's as they are very popular so making it a bit more than just an SS in name only is pretty easy. Plus that same body was in production from 1978 through 1988.

1978 El Camino SS

Does anyone have any parts sources on this generation of El Camino? I am aquiring one from my wifes grandfather and am looking for any info about them. What makes them an SS? Are they a special performance package or just a trim package? It is a fairly clean....car...er....truck...El CarTrucko I am pretty happy about getting this truck also(look for my Olds post) The body has some small rust spots starting to bubble here/there, but the frame, floor, doors, rockers and quarters are all pretty solid. It has a 350/th350 in it with a 4bbl carb. As far as suspension, frame, engine parts go I am pretty hip to it. I do know what parts will swap from which cars. But I am looking for someplace that specializes specifically in Elkys. You know for glass, sheetmetal, interior, etc.
Thanks for all the help! I will also post pics of this when I get it.
Later,
WEIMER
