|racur96||I bought some new brake line and cut flared part off and welded them in and then applied filler on top of the line.|

my next best guess would be all metal filler.........
that stuff evercoat makes.
and if your worried about the amount of filler, you probably could weld in a small filler piece with a thin coat of filler on top for smoothness...... just like you said.

Thanks for the input guys. Again however I want to emphasize I am not interested in cutting the rails off. The Drip rail stays in place is filled & molded into the roof line with a nice flowing radius. I have done test spots & get seperation @ the roof line & drip rail both. It may have to do with the extreme heat as I live in Las Vegas & it's hard to tell how hot a black trucks surface gets with that desert sun beating down on it, but the expansion of the metal over time causes seperation of the materials.
I am seeking other ways to fill it that will stand the stress & expansion csused by the extreme heat here.
Bondo failed, fiberglass resin failed the test. other options?
1 old fashioned lead ?
2 metal to metal aluminized bondo ?

I cut mine off and welded the roof back on like larry and dragon did there's.
If you get the area clean and the metal roughed up, you should be able to fill it with bondo. It would take a lot of twisting and flex to crack it. I've seen bondo a lot thicker than that on customs and it stayed alright.

Thanks for the replys guys.
I just don't care to shave them as in my opinion they add a lot to the eyebrow effect the 56 roofline has compared to the 53 - 55s

|Dragon J||I shaved mine on tmy Henry 'J as Larry described. I don't think there is any way to avoid the cracking unless you weld them- just take your time and jump from side to side. (jus my $.o2!)|

|crazy larry||hey. i have a 72, and couldn't even begin to imagine the difference between your truck and mine, but what i did was; i cut the drip rails off with a sawzall, and welded it back up, tack here, tack there, til it was solid. no warpage whatsoever. but i did burn through a few places that required added welding and grinding. i would guess there's less then an 1/8" of filler on it now.... i like the difference, but i wonder if the average joe would even notice the change?......|

Iwant to fill the drip rails on my 56 F100 & radius them into the roof area.
What is the best method for doing this that will not result in hair line cracks at either the drip rail or the roof.
As tests I have tried bondo & fiberglass but the both have seperation problems. I assume this is due to the thickness of the fill.
Would the old standby of body lead work best?
I could make a 16ga. strip & weld the entire thing in but would prefer not to do that much welding due to warping problems.
