Siggy_Freud If you dont know better then maybe working on/changing cylinder heads isn't the best project to be taking on (research research research).

lluciano77 answered his question pretty well with his first post. From your first post it sounded like you were questioning the quality of gaskets from local parts houses and I was merely stating that felpro gaskets are the same no matter where you get them from (Jegs and Summit included).

Take it as you want but there isn't a reason or need to get upset.

HalfOunce IMO get head gaskets for which ever block you are using ie...
305, 350 400 etc...

highboy73 come on man if you didn't know better would you drill the holes?hell no you'd put it togther,take in mind some folks don't know these things.
find out what your motor is first off and then go from there,and if anyone disagrees well.......f*&k them it's your car and your tme find out what it is.
good for everybody that thinks they are know it alls some of us weren't blessed with that talent and we have to look up part and casting numbers so excuse us dummies while we do it and then when we find out what we got we'll ask your opion.

lluciano77 They will work. You might have to drill the steam holes. They may already have them there anyway.

highboy73 no **** but if you buy gaskets for a 305 and you have a 400 are they gonna work????casting numbers!!!!!!

Siggy_Freud The felpro gaskets from Autozone are the same as anywhere else that you get them.

highboy73 in a stock form yes they are you go changing heads they are not,what about 400 heads on a 350 and 350 heads on a 400?if you are gonns work on it find out what you have so when you to the store it's not a prob,go to mortech and ruun your casting numbers then buy the appropiaite gasket don't just buy a 305 or 400 gasket if you want to work on your motor find out what you are working on first,I know that it's a 305 or 350 but but the numbers tell you never know I bought a 79 monte that was supposed to have a 305 ended up being a 74 400 check your numbers my friend it's easy and free ,mortech

NXS Just last weekend I went to my buddies house and his dad was changing head gaskets on a 390FE. He's an older fellow so i offered to put the heads on for him. He already had the gasket on the passenger side so i plopped the head on. I wipped off the block on the drivers side and when i put the gasket down i paused ...There were two passenger side gaskets! He had an easy fix, flipped it upside down and backwards which it was then actually right side up and forwards (Despite what the gasket had written on it!).

On your SBC, b/c they are so symetrical you won't have that problem, and yes, on many (if not all) of the graphite gaskets you will have passages covered. This is only a concern on the 400 blocks.

highboy73 being a former emplyee of idiotzone I shouldn't talk sh*& but you should buy your gaskets from a reputiable source for your app because the gaskets you get from any parts store are multi fit,which is fine for everyday bob but if you are not bob then call up jegs or summit and get it going

lluciano77 The gaskets are designed to restrict flow in certain areas. The flow of a street gasket is a lot different than the flow of a race gasket. The gaskets are desinged for certain applications.

350 small block head gaskets

I was starting to assemble my sb 350, but I notced that some of the water passages from the head to the block were completley blocked off by the gasket ,and that some were severly restricted.
is this the way they are, or is it the wrong gasket,, or would the cooling be effected by opening up the blocked water passages.
