I suggest you do a little research too on Nitrous Oxide. It can be very safe and very effective when used in the proper application and done with all the safety precautions in place.

The Lt'1 are great motors and have a lot of potential. Unless this engine is in need of an overhaul, I wouldn't be concerned about yanking it and having it worked over. Id invest my money in the LT4 package (which includes heads and intake) and hotcam. That alone should drop you into low 13's high 12's.

There are so many bolt on's for the LT1 you'll be able to spend money for ages on them if you so choose. Summit has a section in the back of their magazine JUST for these engines.

So like I said, unless it needs to be rebuilt, dont worry about it. You can get into the 12's without nitrous no problem. However, before diving into this project, become as familiar as possible with the LT1 injection system (Basically a TPI). Lots of potential just in the tuning of this system.

snod83 It really doesn't take much to get these cars into the 12s. I have a 94 with 170,000 miles on it and I have the lt4 cam, headers, and a good computer tune and I consistantly run 12.7s.... It doesn't take much work at all.. and if you look you can get a z28 with an auto for like 2500 bucks... mine is the manual which is a bit more expensive.

the mustang would be the easy way to go...

A nice Z will cost you some...4-6K and then the engine build up will cost some too...say anothe 5-6k so about 12k and change for 12's.

CCCCCYA Well, I might not be the best example, but I DO have a 95 Z that goes high'ish 11's on motor alone and mid 10's when sprayed and is daily driven. I've got about 5K in the motor and I did everything myself (except machine work of course). You could do it for a little cheaper, but not much cheaper. I overbuilt my bottom end to hold a stupid amount of juice, so you could get away with a few less bucks there (as in no billet steel main caps, no main studs, etc..). If you want to make a late model fly, put your money in the HEADS. Buy the best heads you can afford (AFR, Trickflow, LT4, etc..) or have the stock LT1 heads worked over by a reputable builder. Just make sure you spend the money in the right place. Did I mention get good heads? hehe

I would think that starting with nothing, I could easily put a 4th gen in the 10's for under (or just slightly over) 10 grand, including the cost of the car. They can be had very reasonably these days. Just be prepared for massive frustration when working on it, as it seems like it's hard to slid a sheet of paper between componants under the hood sometimes. Also, you'll need to get very familiar with tuning a late model and I didn't figure in the cost of the laptop or software in my numbers..

There are several articles around on buiding a 10 sec car for under 10 grand (without using panzy oxide). Luckily for you, you have to build an F body to accomplish it.

NXS I don't know how to "yank one over" to get 12's but a set of gears and the juice should do it no prob.

how much does it cost?

i was wondering how much would i expect to pay if i got a 4th gen z28 and had the engine pulled out and yanked over to get low 12 quarter mile times. I would use this car for mostly street with some strip use. i was also planning on running nos on it too, any input would be greatly appreciated
