I'm working on a 1968 Shelby that years ago it apears that someone hit the rear window with a DA in a few places. The owner has two windows but both have scratches. Anybody had any luck removing scratches or does he need a new rear window?
Thanks,
Rusty

I don't have any experience with scratches in the glass but I'd sure take it to one of those glass repair shops (or some of them will come right to your door) that fix stone chips and cracks in glass. The guy who did my windshield last summer made the crack/chip totally disappear. My guess is they can fix you up.

I used a glass polishing compound made into a paste (cerium oxide?) many times at work (Art teacher) and at home on project cars. I believe I got it from J.C. Whitney many many years ago. It works great for light scuffs and scratches, but will NOT remove anything which you can 'catch' with a fingernail- that is, if it is deep enough that your fingernail catches in the groove- good luck! When you apply a lot of pressure with a compound on heavy scratches you can heat 'wave' or distort the glass. For heavier scratches such as this you should call the glass repair place, but around here, I've never seen them be able to repair anything that didn't go through the first layer of laminated glass...(like a bigger chip)
