My tubing bender came in today..!!:D JD2 model three..very nicle done, well made, nice machine blue finish, the instructions are great..well worth the extra bit of cash over some of the others I have seen advertised..

Lots of die sizes as well are available..

I am now a happy camper..

Side tracked

Life intrudes..have a job to do sooo..rod will have to wait a bit..I am building a fabrication bench on which I will mount the bender..

Tip if you incorporate a 2" hitch reciever or two into your bench then you can mount your vises, benders and other tools by using a 2" square piece of tubing on them and just change tooling as needed..

I am building my bench out of a section of mobile home frame that I have..

Once I get caught up on chores then it will be back to cars..

I'm planning on doing the same thing with my work/welding bench. (on the two front corners and center) My bench has been an ongoing project as ideas come to light....I'm trying to incorporate my mini fridge, and cabinetry to the underside of mine for a smooth clean look, so I'm head scratching at this point. I'm planning on building a wall mounted "tree" for my bender, vices and bench grinder to store them while not in use. I may have square cut outs in my benchtop with pockets Then I don't need to pin the stubs in during use.

One thing to mention about bench mounting your bender is do you have the clearence for long joints of tubing, and also on compund bends sometimes your table can get in the way. Just my .02

I have a pro tools and it has rocked. I wanted one of these forever, and now I can bend whatver I want, as lng asits 1.5" or 1.75" hehehe

That is a good point..Since I need to be able to move my tools in and out of my blacksmith shop to storage the portable style of mounting seems to be the best..the rest of the time I use that bench for welding and such..

I got my JD2 here Van Sant

I got mine a couple of years ago and love the thing. I got 1 1/8" dies for building jr dragster chassis, and 1 5/8" dies for "regular" car chassis. I'm very happy with mine, and the folks at VanSant were very easy to deal with.

My .02

This weekend

past two weeks have been a bit of a zoo here..so this weekend will have a bit of time to work on the bench and get the bender setup..mine is the manual style and I have some 13/4 0.95 (I meant 0.095 wall) big diff... to bend so then I will know how hard it is to use..

Bender is operational

Yup got it set up and working..bending tube is easy enough with a long handle..and makes some great header tubes..I would think this would be a good addition to any shop that fabricates chassis and such..specially a race shop that has to build and make repairs on a reg basis..as far as the economics of it the price of the bender and some tube is way less than what I would have to pay to send out for that work to be done..

Other options

I have an older JD2 bender that I have that I bought from a friend years ago. Works real good but need the hydrualic option. I made a stand out of 2in rigid conduit an old 16in trailer rim filled with concrete. Then I bought some 2in threaded rigid couplings bored th ID out to match the OD of the rigid pipe welded some 1/4in plate to them for mounting bases for various tooling and also welded some 3/8x16 nuts to the coupling, drilled them out so I could use some 3/8x16 bolts threaded in to keep the various tooling from moving around.
